My dog is dumber than a rock

Yesterday our dog didn’t feel well, wouldn’t eat and was very lethargic. We kept an eye on him all morning and he didn’t improve. So we called his vet and she wanted to take a look at him. The vet was very busy so we had to drop him off for a “squeeze in”. About an hour later we got the call to come in and sign a surgery release to allow her to remove a rock from his stomach. $2300.00 dollars later we brought home a very dopey (in both ways

) dog who has 20 sutures in his stomach and 38 staples in his belly. He have a very unsettled night wandering around the house in a stupor. Today he is doing well, has eaten the little bit we can feed him and is drinking and peeing well. Thankfully we have pet insurance and we “think” that we will be reimbursed for the cost less the $1000 deductible. Sure hope so. Dogs.
The rock. (No, not the wrestler/movie star)

Like that TV commercial says, “it’s my rock and I want it back”. Or something like that.

Wow!!!
Glad it seems as if he'll be okay.
It's simply amazing what these dogs can eat, and then survive.
I do hope y'all get some $$$ help with the Vet bill, too.

Yeah we had a Labrador that would eat anything and had a few trips to the vet.
2lbs of snail and slug bait was the closest she came to killing herself. 1oz is more than enough to kill a large dog, that trip invloved hoses in every orifice and being pumped full of water to flush her out.
She would chew up bricks when younger but dont think she actually ate them, more than one corn cob and a mango seed that was swallowed whole was another vet visit. Vets advice was if it made it in one end it should make it out the other

Keep an eye on her and bring her back if she stops eating drinking of going to the toilet. She never slowed down with all 3 and must have passed it eventually.
Glad your dog is OK Hatchdog

Glad your dog is okay. We had a couple of very large vet bills over the years. We had a few great dogs over the years as well.

Had a beagle back when I was kid. Great rabbit dog, but had a thing for cactus (used to hunt w/dad on Camp Pendleton). When we got home we had to spend an hour or so pulling spines out of his butt.

My young newly married, and new Mother, Granddaughter called a few weeks Before Christmas crying that her kitty was dying and they didn't have the money to take it to the vet. I asked how much the vet wanted and she said $800.00.
So the first thing Grandpa asked was, "how old is the cat?" Of course that made her cry.
Well anyway, the cat was just a kitten. OK, take it to the vet and we'll pay.
Vets aren't cheap. I'm guessing when I need some major medical procedure in the future she's going to ask how old I am.

He had a good day yesterday and is doing fine today so far. Since we still have quite a bit of snow on the ground and I don’t want him running thru deep wet snow I’m taking him out on the leash to conduct his business. He’s not too happy about that. Thanks everybody for the well wishes.

Got a statement from the pet insurance company and it looks like they will reimburse us nearly $900.00 for the vet bill. Happy about that.
Trey is doing great with his recovery. He’s doing a pretty good job not licking the incision but once in a while he pays some attention to it. Then the cone of shame gets put on. This inflatable cone is so much more comfortable that those hard plastic extended cones that bang into every chair leg and door frame.

He does seem to be a bit depressed that he can’t go outside and romp. He loves our hikes.

Cost more to take the dog to the Vet than it does for me to go to the Dr. Glad he is doing better Hatch give him a treat for me.

Between old cats and old horses we are usually customer of the month status at the vet office.

Understood. We used to have two horses along with a dog and a cat. The vet would send us Christmas cards.
