So I'm busy this morning raking out leaves from my side lot as the city leaf collectors are headed this way. My neighbor behind me comes over and we talk. Now that street is deep woods on other side and where I like to take woods walks. Neighbor takes some limbs to throw them in the woods and decided to pick up a tarp he had noticed there just into the woods a week ago. Well he found a body laying under the tarp and called the police.
Man that is scary! No neighborhood is safe and this one is a quiet one most the time.

That would a very unpleasant surprise. Damn!

Dang it man.
Back in the summer my business partner found one in a big drainage ditch behind their clubhouse.
She had been there a while, very unpleasant he said.

Yes, that would be a shock for sure. I hope they identify the poor soul and catch the person(s) who did it.

Yikes!!! We live deep in the woods and a perfect place to dispose of someone. I think about that a lot.
We have cameras everywhere with alarms. You cannot move around outside our house without knowledge.

How awful!!! What a dreadful shocking find.

Several years ago my buddy and I were helping one of the local park rangers with a river cleanup weekend. He was going to have us dive around the nearby boat landing in hopes of finding something big ie an abandoned car, to increase the poundage found. There was a competition between a few of the local parks. At the last minute our dive was canceled, I don't remember why. Anyway shortly thereafter a car was found just downstream from the landing. It had a body in it, and had been there for many months. Either my buddy or I would have undoubtedly found it. That would have thrown a pall on the cleanup weekend.

That same dive buddy worked with a local rescue team for a while. I was always afraid of a call from him to go help find the body of a child in the river. Fortunately, that call never came. I would have been willing to do it, but I'm sure it would haunt me if I were the one to find them. An adult, I feel I could have dealt with. Either way, the families would need closure.

Sad business.

Well the police had the area sealed off all day and into evening and took info from us that live in that area. Local TV news was covering it and yeah they interviewed me. Latest is that the body had been there for several weeks. It was just into the woods from the clearing along the street and I walk by there all the time on the dog walks. I usually enter the woods a bit further down where a trail is. Just a wild thing to happen during a day in your quiet neighborhood. Whomever did it knew that area!

I'm sure that WAS a shock. Keep us posted on what they come up with. I, for one, am interested.

When I was working dispatch right after I got out of the Corps, there was an area where the Railroad Tracks were the border between our County and the City. For a few years, Richmond was one of the Murder Capitals of the Country. The Zone that covered that RR Track area in the county would find a body beside the tracks on a regular basis and have to call out the Homicide Detectives. What was normally discovered was that the murders occurred in the city, were gang related, and they would dump the body on the County side of the tracks to slow the investigation. SOP became to call Richmond when the body was discovered and they would assign a Richmond PD Homicide Investigator to work the case jointly. After about six months, there was no longer an advantage to the risk of hauling the body to the county line and the bodies stopped appearing, the gang members left them where they dropped.

Richmond got tired of being in the top five, elected a new Mayor/Sheriff/ and Chief of Police. They got together with the heads of LE in all the surrounding metro areas and the State Police and put together a hard nosed plan. Within two years murders and violent crime was down about 60%, and eventually Richmond dropped out of the top ten.

Sounds like the beginning of a good mystery novel...

It's to bad, that we can't the whole country to get onboard for that.

Just heard on the news this morning that an elderly man was found dead in his home a few miles from my place. Law Enforcement believes this is from a home invasion and are actively looking for the suspect who is a younger man traveling in an SUV with a large dog. On alert here at the hatchdog home.

Not good Hatch. Stay on guard around there!

I heard from a source that the body found here was shot twice so it is now a homicide investigation.

I’m sure most of you have heard the news reports about the four University of Idaho students who were murdered a week before Thanksgiving. Yesterday a suspect was arrested in Pennsylvania, 2500 miles from Moscow Idaho where the murders took place. However, this guy is enrolled at Washington State University which is located only about 10 miles away from the murder scene. Looks like a combination of new technology with DNA combined with good old fashioned police investigation led to the suspect. The community of Moscow Idaho is breathing a bit easier today I’m sure. Moscow is about 90 miles south of Spokane.

Now if only the local law enforcement will find the suspect in the murder that took place earlier this week about 2-3 miles from my home. This was a home invasion murder that took place at a home in a rural area just like the one I live in. We’ve been much more diligent keeping out doors locked and the garage door closed.

Locking up is habitual to me. So much that I do it without even thinking about it. Easy enough and better safe than sorry.

Me too, but my wife gets snappy at me when I unconsciously do it during day light hours.
