They had tornado watches in effect for a number of areas in OK today, and warnings for others. We were included in the Watch areas. They had two actual tornados touch down and tracking South East of us, then track North East (away) from us, doing some damage, and knocking out power. We never had to run for the Tornado Shelter we installed right after we bought the place, but it's nice to know it's there.

Movie tonight in our place? Twister.
Always liked it and it seemed appropriate.


Lot of talent in that movie.

It's hard to put a price on the piece of mind your shelter provides. Glad you are safe!

When TWISTER came up on the screen, Miss Tina laughed at me.
"You are one sick puppy," She said. "Really?"
I told her we ought to be in the right mindset if we had to run down into the shelter.

Years ago when I was stationed in NC and the hurricanes and flooding were coming, I watched Jaws. You know, in case the ocean rose.

I grew up mostly in Nebraska. We had tornado watches all through the tornado season and I actually saw two from a distance. Had some in laws that actually lived through one that destroyed their house. Not fun. Personally, I found those open country blizzards in the winter to be more frightening. Nothing more ferocious than a prairie blizzard.

The first week we were in OK, a tornado passed close to the daughter's house. Not near, but close. We spent an hour in the basement. The winds prior to the siren were pretty scarey. The Son in Laws car was actually lifted a couple inches off the ground a couple times by the high winds funneled into the enclosed carport. It's enclosed on two sides, and most of the back with a narrow walkthru passage to the back door.

The high winds forced thru, under his Hyundai, created lift. That was scary. The carport awning, is vented for that reason.

I enjoy a good blizzard and the feeling of being isolated. Well I did when I was younger. I’ve never been in a tornado or hurricane. Seattle does have wind storms and I’ve experienced dozens of them with winds of 60-80 mph. Even experienced two earthquakes.

The Inauguration Day Wind Storm of 1993 was the worst natural disaster I’ve ever experienced. Wet wind reached 100 mph and tore down power lines. We were without power one day short of three weeks. Some were without power for more than four weeks. Oh the good old days!

I have been thru a minor earthquake in california when stationed at Camp Pendleton. Two actually. I missed the one while driving in the car, never noticed it. The other just shook the house, knocked pics off the walls, things off shelves. No injuries.

Several hurricanes throughout my life. Lived in FL as a kid and vague memories of huddling with the folks, we kids thinking it was cool. Blanket forts, sandwiches, lanterns, deep water in the yard.

Big one, Hurricane IWA, in Hawaii. Major damages around the island, to the base facility, some aircraft after roof panels were torn off. Portions of the base golf course ten feet underwater. We moved furniture to the second floor. Good thing, foot of water came through downstairs.

You have to respect mother nature.

I remember that storm Sir Henry. Of course here inland we didn’t get nearly the power you did. Nice that the Cascade Mountains act as a block to those big winds that the Puget Sound region experiences. But I do remember the news coverage on the destruction for the west side.

I’m pretty fortunate, I’ve never experienced most of the weather systems mentioned above. Never felt an earthquake, seen a tornado or hurricane. We do get the occasional blizzard or wind storm and other than fire that’s pretty much it. I understand what NCG is saying about prairie blizzards. I experienced one in NE North Dakota that my mom had to drive thru with us kids in the car. I was 15 and could appreciate the total white out she experienced. Somehow we made it to our destination and back home safely.

Glad you're safe. We got some rain and occasional wind but okay.

I felt several mild tremors when I lived in California. Then there was the big one, ( the Northridge ) quake outside of LA. It was about a 7.2. We lived about an hour south in Lake Forest. Some things fell off the shelves in the house and water was splashing out of our in ground pool. Pretty helpless feeling. Then came the aftershocks.

I've felt the tremors from earthquakes here in Upstate NY. I was about 10 miles away from a tornado here too. They are rare, but happen.

I'm glad things stayed fine for you. I like your sense of humor and movie tastes.

I forgot one earthquake... In VA. The same on that cracked the Washington monument. We got the edges of that one. Cracked some places in the ceiling I repaired. Knocked tools off the pegboards in the woodshop.

We had a quake here recently about a mile away. 3 something. Didn't feel it.
We've had some 4+ in years past. There was a somewhat big one in Tacoma a long time ago that we felt strongly here. I was near a window at work. I moved away very fast. Shortly after the evac alarm went off. Really long time ago lived in Escondido CA. Quakes were common occurrence. Some felt, many not.

Mags, when was the earthquake here? About 2 nights ago, my wife & I were both woke up by our cell phones falling off the nightstand. We wondered if we had slept thru a bit of a shaker………
