I wish I felt comfortable letting go of a few of my extra guns, I have been watching these canes for years and always wanted one. They are high quality, and start at the price of a good 1911 and go up from there. We are talking damascus blades, bone handles, engraving. I don't need all that, but since I use a cane every day if I'm not in the evil chair...

Why not have one that serves as a backup. They are legal here.

Wow, that is stunning. Is that the model you want? $1700??? I don’t care for the fancy stuff, but I think the titanium one is way cool. I wear a titanium watch and it would match. Question about the push to release mechanism, it seems like crud from your hands would get down there, or are you supposed to wear a glove?

I would likely get their Base Model, at around $850, if and when I got one. For one thing, the release is at the base of the ball type grip, and for another, it's a sword rather than a dagger. Again, they are legal here. I carry a NICE Bridges cane, Carbon Fiber shaft and a heavy brass head with a Marine Corps insert. Bridges makes Golf Club shafts and they offer the canes with various brass heads with Military and other inserts.


Miss Tina bought the cane for me at Bush Gardens about twenty Five years ago when I needed one only when we were doing things like theme parks or museums as I had only had a few (half dozen) knee surgeries at the time. Back then, the cane was $50. A year or so later, we came across the exact same can, brand new, in an antique shop we used to frequent. Still had the "golf club" head cover on it. We bought it for the $25 asking price. The two canes have ridden in the two vehicles since we have owned them. They STAY in the vehicles, used when we go out. I have house canes, not as nice.

For now, I just carry the same knife I have carried for more than thirty years, a Benchmade Folder. Faster than a switchblade, and legal most everywhere. Switchblades are also legal here in OK, but weren't in VA, except when I was working patrol operations. I still didn't carry one, though I owned a couple. I liked the benchmade better.

How do you like the knob type handle compared to the curved handle?

To be honest, I find the knob grip more comfortable, but a friend of mine in VA who had taken a defense course with the cane, said the hook or T was a much more effective tool in a self defense situation. I just smiled and sighed. The guy was 6'4" tall, and had biceps as big as my thighs. He used a cane but I don't think mugging was in his future .

I have never had the issue in more than two decades, but the shape of the knob would make a real difference. I have seen some delicate canes, most likely feminine, with small teardrop heads. I would have trouble holding on to those.

When I was in the woods a lot more, I always kept an eye out for walking cane and staff material. I used to make them and give to folks who needed them. I always liked one stout enough to hit with and not break. But now I have to go with lighter ones. Wife and I both are using one we got at bass pro.

I made a couple in the shop, using a spokeshave after I glued blocks together. It was a way to use the shop scraps and I enjoyed the work. No lathe? I liked using the spokeshave, but I had to break the work up over several days. This one I even formed the cane handle and sanded it to shape with strips.


We found this one in an antique shop, but the shaft was bowed. I salvaged the head, and reused it on a shaft I made. Again, no lathe, but the challenge was interesting.

My daily use cane around the farm is a simple aluminum hook cane from CVS. Light, adjustable and easy to clean. The key word in this sentence is FARM.
