Too much serious going on these days, we are all due for a smile or two, or just some fun.

Miss T and I used to do a lot of puzzles, including the ones that were HUGE and had a lot of pieces. Frustrating puzzles, including the round ones, or the ones that were odd shaped. I even gave her a four foot tall rooster for Christmas one year, 2500 pieces and it was just the full color rooster, NO background, and JUST the rooster shape.. ragged edges. I thought she was going to kill me. She finished it. WEEKS later. We glued it to a poster board backing and then put a poster finish over it. Hung in her She Shop for a year. I don't recall if it survived the move.

I took a lot of pictures that I always said would make GREAT puzzles. I'm sure some of you did. Let's try a thread of Puzzle Pics. Keep them coming.

I'll start, and add more later.


I love the reflections from the State Park we lived near. They used a lot of my pics for postcards. They used one they converted to an oil painting over the fireplaces in the new cabins they built.

One of my favorite pics of Tina, I named Last Cast. We were an hour away from the boat ramp, and I had told her an hour before we needed to head back or we'd be paddling in the dark. A big bass hit the lure just as I said it. I knew we'd be there a while. "One last cast." She said. An hour ago.... "One last cast." (No, she didn't catch that big bass.)


Post your puzzle pics, I have plenty more. I'd like to see YOURS. If they will make good puzzles... they can be saved and used for wallpapers.

Not a puzzle expert, so not sure what makes for a good puzzle pic, but here's some more northerly possibilities, all right out our door.

All good shots. Any pic that makes YOU feel good makes a good puzzle in my opinion. Great puzzles for those up to the challenge, are complicated or repeating patterns, like clovis's greenery. His reflections pic could drive you crazy. (Not a bad thing for those who like puzzles.)

When I get back to my desktop computer, I'll see if I can find my field of wildflowers, or Virginia / NC barn pics, all good subjects. At least IMHO.

For the Fly Fishing Puzzle Fan...

Gatlinburg Trip April 2008


One thing I learned on that trip was that Mountain Stream trout are as quick as rattlesnakes and you have to use a quick fly rod. A long slow action rod you'd use on largemouth bass won't work. A flick, and they are gone.


That water rushing down the river is ... still really really cold in late April.


And the rocks are covered in Elephant Snot.


If you slip on the snot covered rocks and fall back thinking you caught yourself on the big bolder behind you... ... it's just Mother Nature laughing at you. You'll realize that as you slowly slide off to one side. But first, the icy cold water will rush UP your waders like a ski jump, hit you in the chin, and trickle down the front of your bib... ... ease, um sneak a trickle past your wader belt, and into your

I finally got my wading staff which was wagging in the current behind me over my shoulder up. I had tucked my fly rod under the other arm. Jammed it into the sandy bottom and pushed. It stopped the slide. Then I looked down and realized my Nikon 300 with telephoto lens was imitating a wild trout on the end of it's strap.

IT did not survive it's attempt at impressionism. The memory card did.
The camera body and lens sadly continued to do their impressions of aquatics never to function again.

Ah, fly fishing for mountain trout. Brings back great memories. Thanks for the wonderful pics.

The part about the Nikon taking a plunge hurt to read.

Older mechanical cameras did not play well with water, but often would survive with proper care immediately afterwards.

Newer digital cameras, not so much.

My dad's Rolleiflex TLR from the 60s is still functional after around 60 years. I have no illusions that my new Nikon Z5 will be working at even a couple decades. Still, the money spent on film over the life of a camera will normally exceed the purchase price of the equipment many times over.

Ranch Roper has posted a lot of pictures worthy of this thread. I don't know if this was one of his or not but I saved it to my computer because I thought it had some solemn worthiness.

A lot of folks here have pictures that are worthy. Great vistas, animal pics, rusting cars, tractors, show cars, horses, dogs. Cats - OMG the puzzle section should have a giant arrow hanging down from the ceiling in some stores screaming "Cats! - Here are the cute cats.

It's a bit of a cliche trick to desaturate everything but a point of interest. Sometimes it does work well, though. This is so much easier to do with digital than it was with film.

Agreed, love the expressions our pets offer. I can hear the thoughts is this cat’s head, “you looking at me?”

Those would make great puzzle pics! Especially the rifles!

I used to get up early, and go out and sit in the garden and WAIT for opportunities to catch just the right shot. THIS has always been one of my favorites. The drop just about to fall, the colors in the Joseph's Coat Rose, the contrast between the softness of the flower, the sharp thorns, and the texture of the rocks.


Sunsets are always a favorite as well. When I was a young Marine, I got along with everyone... and because my Dad was a former sailor, I never had a problem with the Navy and they could tell. I had access to areas of the ship off limits to other Marines. The Watch Standers would let me come sit on the Aft Gun Mount with them... a little area of some privacy, RARE on the ship. This sunset is taking place in a Fiord in Norway. It's freezing out there, snow on the mountains. But the sunset is beautiful. Note the safety chains in the bottom of the pic and the Gun barrel in the top. "Gun" is the correct term here, it's a big'un.


For year's we'd rent a Cabin at First Landing State Park outside Virginia Beach. Off the beach were the remains of an old net line. I caught this pic at Sunset...


One reward for sitting in the garden in the early morning was capturing this pic. This is a Hummingbird Moth. The picture appeared in the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Monthly Magazine as the Photo of the Month in their contest. One of the biologists called me and congratulated me on the quality of the shot. "Luck," I told him. "Patience."


I also got shots of bees covered in pollen and actual hummingbirds frozen in flight.

One thing about kayak fishing... I was always happy to carry the camera and capture great images. Never bored if the fish weren't biting.

These shots were always favorites from my high school days. THESE were taken on slide film. Yup, Old School.

This is the BARN shot I was talking about.


Then a wildflower shot.


Then lets combine the wildflowers, with a pond and the barn.... a puzzle threefor.

Yeah, the slides were decades old when I scanned them. Not nearly as sharp as the modern shots... but you get the idea.
