Does anyone else have "secret adult Reading"?

Love it.

I had quite a collection of Creepy & Eerie magazines when I was a teen....The 'ol Crypt Keeper was always good for a few laughs too...

Nope, when I spend time reading, it's like most tv if I watch.
It's got to be real/believable, don't.

I still have the reproductions from when I was 8. They have gone everywhere with me. I used to keep them in a drawer next to my bed. Then as I became a mom I would hide them. My daughter found them and read them all. As I had the manly man I've hid them. The better half thinks he might enjoy them. Manly man is like me, that is he seems to enjoy horror movies. I would like him to read things with substance however.

I had a few of those when I was a kid, gave them to my cousins when they visited. I liked them back then, but quickly moved onto Bolitho, and adventure fiction and Louis Lamour. I then added Murder Mystery like Spillane and Perry Mason. Later I discovered Stephen King and Military Fiction. Never got into the Marvel Universe. Before I left High School I had two floor to ceiling bookcases filled with paperback and hardback novels.

I'll never forget a preface written in one of the novels I read. It said that if Louis L'amour wrote a book about a pond, it would be about the battle over water rights to the pond and cattle rustling. If Stephen King wrote a book about the same pond, something would crawl OUT of the pond and kill the cattle and the rustlers. (I think Louis L'amour WROTE the preface.)

Okay, you got me there. I was a huge fan of Mad.

For me the best part of Mad magazine was the little drawings in the borders. You had to look for them and I always felt rewarded when I found them.

No secret reading stash for me these days….now maybe back in the 60’s there may have been a secret or two.

Old brass: we had those too! I liked spy vs spy, and the rear cover you had to fold to see the secret picture. My dad never let me fold the cover, just bend it enough to see it.
My dad was/is a serious collector. Right down to cardboard, and plastic wrapping, special boxes to hold his comics. And wash your hands before you touch the comics.

A Mad Magazine anecdote. My daughter struggled with reading in the first grade. That summer we visited my family in Florida. The Pup discovered a Mad Magazine paperback book in the closet of my old room. She decided she wanted to read it, despite the fact it was way above even normal level for a first to second grader. She spent a lot of time with it, and occasionally asked about some words.

When she went back to school in the fall, we got a note to see the teacher. "Here we go again." we thought. Teacher asked why she was in the remedial reading class, said she needed to be in the advanced class. She tested several grades ahead in reading from then on.

Twice I collected 100 comic books. Never interested in those Tales of the Crypt type graphic novels. My Secret Adult Reading collection was more "Adult", consisting of girly and pin up magazines which eventually led to a 20 year old collection of Penthouse, amongst others. Also collected first edition and premiere edition magazines. I once went into a book store and found a magazine still in its original mailing envelope. I asked the cashier how much and she said, she didn't know as the manager was out to lunch. I told her that it said twenty-five cents on the cover and she said, O.K. It turned out it was a first edition of Sports Illustrated with the "baseball cards still inside". Valued it at $300 once. Since, collected over 100 different first edition magazines, some worth it, some not so much.

I guess you could call my "Secret" adult reading, the Janet Evanovitch Number series... "One for the Money," " Two for the Dough."

There are more than twenty five now, and they are hilarious. The main character is a female bounty hunter... that got laid off from her job as a panty buyer for a department store. She isn't a good bounty hunter, and always gets into trouble.
