How many grains of coffee ?

Post by Oldbrass » Thu Jan 27, 2022 2:30 pm

I thought I'd see how many grains it takes to load a full charge of coffee, my powder of choice is fresh ground french roast beans from Costco. A full charge is three dippers of 102 gr each so 306 gr for a pot.. I'm curious what others here are using for powder charge of joe..

Also Keurig, been getting mine online from a roaster that says it can take 4 to 5 months for coffee to get from the roaster to the store. They say theirs ships to you 3 to 5 days after roasting. I think it tastes better and really noticed more aroma when it is brewing. Many varieties and cost is actually cheaper than Starbucks/Donut Shop. A little more than Costco brand depending on how much you order.

When I drink hot coffee, it's one heaping plastic scoop of grains per 1 cup of water. ☺
In recent past though, I've been enjoying Starbuck's cold Frappacino, mocha.

I've been using just under 1/4 cup of beans per 10 oz of water for a single mug of coffee. In the morning I've been using the full test Sam's Choice 105 Main. It has complex notes of plum, lemon, and sweet cocoa. The rest of the day I've been using Don Pablo Colombian Decaf. It is lightly roasted to be caramely and consistent, smooth, bright, and easy to drink with a mild finish and a sweet, pleasant aftertaste. I grind them fine enough to get a 3 1/2 minute extraction with a 30 second bloom.

OK, maybe I have been watching too many James Hoffman videos.

FWIW, he weighs his coffee and water when brewing. I weighed mine early on, but then converted to volume, and have been using volume drops every since.
