After ten days or so of waiting, Tina's Jersey/Holstien Cross cow had her calf, finally. It's a little boy calf and Tina is just glad it's here and healthy and it was born during the day, and the weather was mild. She let the mom out to wander, and she went down to the creek bank to stand, lay, and chew her cud and started to have minor contractions. Tina stayed down with her all day, as that creek bottom is a haunt for Coyotes and there are several big males that have made daytime appearances on the Game Cams that cover that area.

As it got near dusk, Tina locked Molly in her stall, and came up and got a hot cup of tea and rested. She went down to check on her, and she was bawling, and there were feet visible. Tina checked and the nose was turned down. A little adjustment and out came the babe!

My granddaughter got a rooster several years back. She was stumped to what to name him. I suggested "Sunday" as in dinner! He fortunately lived out his life with a large flock of layers and meat chickens. What a Life!

Years ago, the farmer up the road gave the three girls a new lamb to bottle raise when mom passed unexpectedly. Tina named the lamb gyro. They raised it for several months, then little gyro was returned to the farmer's flock. The girls were young, moved on. But would yell, "Hey Gyro!" Every time we passed the pasture for the next couple years, and laugh, and laugh.

They moved away, moved on with their lives... One called after moving to Texas.

A few days after his birthday, Burger is zipping around the pasture like a rocket, burning off energy, then returning to the stall for a nap. Mom doesn't let him get too far out of her sight, but can't chase him very well. Miss Tina keeps an eye on him as there are packs of coyotes just dying to have a conversation with him if he was left unattended. :raised: He looks a lot better than he did covered in Mom Spit.





If I had to guess, I'd say mom has enough milk to keep him supplied. Miss T has been milking off the excess to prevent the bad things that can happen if she doesn't.

Sounds like Miss Tina is doing well after her bout with Covid. Glad to see that.
