Earlier this year I sold my 68 Mustang California Special to a guy in New Zealand. I bought this car from a guy who restored it who lives in North Carolina. He has done several restorations on these classics and after he completed mine he started another. He completed it this year and as he is in his 80’s he decided to sell it. Originally the guy who bought my car connected with me through the guy in NC. Fast forward to a few months ago, lo and behold the buyer of his most recent car also lives in New Zealand and knows the purchaser of my car. Today the guy in NC posted on the California Special forum this picture of both cars parked side by side. That’s quite a journey to end up side by side half the world away. Mine was the green one.

Just somethin about old muscle cars. I have missed for many years my old 69 Mustang 2+2..

My first car was a '67 Mustang.

Had a 69 Dart Convertible myself Forty but only had the 318 in it. Good car over 20mpg on the highway

My boys and I had three Mustangs. Two 65s and a 67. My youngest wrecked the nicest one, a 65, we eventually sold the other two for newer vehicles. I then had 1974 Stingray for a long time. It won many awards at car shows over the years, but eventually it became a hanger queen taking up garage space, so I put a price on it now one would pay, and you guessed it, someone did. He wanted it for car shows too. It was arrest me red and all original. Never wrecked or painted. I still miss it, sometimes.

Yes and no, mostly when I see a nice classic driving down the street I think, “that could be me”. But I don’t miss the maintenance and the cost to keep it pristine. We got lots of enjoyment out of it but after a while we found going to car shows got to be a bit boring. We did enjoy parades and cruises most.

My first car was a 64 1/2 Mustang. Probably just as well it only had a 170 six in it. The bad news was that it was paired with a light duty 3 speed, that just didn't hold up to an 18 yr old driving it. I got really good at swapping transmissions.

A couple years ago I saw an almost identical model sitting in a driveway in the neighborhood. Even the same color. Thought about knocking on the door and asking the owner about it, but never did. It obviously was never driven during the course of the year or so that I saw it sitting there, but it looked good from the street.

I'm hanging on to this ol' Mustang for a while longer at 36 yrs. and counting. Still a LOT of fun to drive on those sunny days with a 427 and a 5 spd. !

That IS truly an awesome pony car forty!
