Friend of mine were talking about Russian ammo (lack of) and I mentioned I had 2k rounds of Russian 7.62X39 that I paid $119 per 1000 some time back. He went into menopause and offered $250. I kindly said it's SHTF stock and not for sale. He asked what I paid for my SKS and I said $250 LNIB and he offered $400 (again not for sale) I pulled up SKS on GunBroker on my phone and his jaw dropped, they're asking $800 for rusty Norincos...how times have changed.. we're still friends .

For years I told friends to buy a couple boxes of ammo a month and put them aside. They only bought ammo when they were going to go shooting. I'd tell them it's best to have some on hand, but they just whined they didn't have the budget for it, as they stacked bags of chips, dip, and cases of beer on the counter.

I have friends who make fun of me because I have ammo in the basement on hand and quite a bit of 22 LR. Im now listening to them complain of prices of ammo and they dont have any. Same scenario as Marine. Cant help you.

I kept telling everyone to buy a firearm. One friend wanted to but his wife just would not allow it. No way, no how. Then the rioting spread within blocks of their million dollar home. OMG. "Maybe we need a gun."

He went to every gunshop in the metro area. No guns. Limited ammo. Very little handgun or rifle ammo, plenty of shotgun at the time.

This included the Bass Pro, Walmart, etc. He is like family, so I sold Him one of my extra training shotguns. I included a case and a dozen rounds of buck. I told him to go buy ammo. Get a case or three while you can. We were in the process of packing to leave VA and move to OK. VA continued to spiral. A year later, no ammo on the shelves. I asked how many cases he picked up. "Ah, I was busy."

Even though I reload most all I shoot I still pick up a couple boxes of .45 ACP when I see it with brass cases and even better with small pistol primers like the Lawman brand at a decent price. I can save on primers and reload them later. Picked up a couple great deals on .30 Carbine and 5.56 bulk ammo before things got crazy.

Years ago i was fed a sob story about not having enough 22lr. I sold the guy some 22lr. I could not get it back. (obama the first term) So, the next year i worked out a pre buy ammo deal for some folks, bought 4 or 5 pallets of ammo. 1/3rd flaked, 1/3rd wanted a refund, and the final third wanted ammo other than what they ordered.

I don't do people favors anymore when it comes to guns or ammo.

I started buying .22 LR. ammo right before obozo went in and it was $15 a brick. As a result I have plenty to last my for a long time. Also I bought Remington 250 packs of .45 A.C.P. even though I have plenty of components to load my own. Every time I have ever bought a firearm in the last 50 years I made sure I had reloading dies and a bullet mould so I could feed it.

When I was teaching for the department, I bought the ammo every year. Tens of thousands of rounds a year at bulk prices. Our supplier had no problem selling me a case of this and two cases of that at the contract price, since he knew I was teaching and competing and supplying my own ammo. I reloaded my competition ammo, so the bulk cased ammo went into the cool dry storage.

We had a ppc competitors group that got together once a year and bought reloading supplies in bulk as well, hauling an enclosed trailer to Georgia to pick up the order from Georgia Arms. Bullets, powder, primers, and misc accessories. You can get a really good price when your order numbers are hundred thousand plus items, and everyone pays cash. We would buy enough to load for a year of practice and competition. Some of the guys were shooting ppc, ipsc, and bullseye. They loved our group.

Ugg. Ammo. My son. I've always told him since he moved out of the house "every paycheck buy 1 box of ammo. Even if you don't plan on shooting, even if you think you don't need it." The deaf ears thing. Now I don't buy a box every weekend - because I don't need to. But when I'm in or near a place that sells ammo I stop in and see what they have. If it's a caliber I own, I grab a box - maybe two.

Not too long ago my son wanted to shoot his Henry but didn't have too many .22's I told him to come over and grab a hundred or so. He gets there I tell him the .22's are in the box on the bottom. He came out a few minutes later and asked me to help him get the top box off the bottom box. I said no. He asked what was in the top box I said all ammo "not" .22. "Well, I can't get the top box off to get to the bottom box." That's not my problem.

So he rolls his eyes a bit. I said "unpack the top box until it's light enough to move, then you can get to the bottom box. Open the bottom box, get a hundred or so rounds, put the box back on top and repack it." "Are you gonna help me?" I said "I already did. I told you a long time ago to get a box every paycheck." So - he does all this and gets his .22's. Says "hey - grab your Ruger Mark II and go with me." - he was going to give me crap when I had to do the same thing he did to get a box of .22's. I opened the safe, grabbed the Mark II and picked up a box of .22's off the shelf in the safe.

He's not asked me for any ammunition since. And he buys a box when he finds it whether he thinks he needs it or not.

Note: He's a very fine young man - but every now and then you have to make a point.

Shooting and hunting are my sport. I've always kept a "cushion" of ammo & reloading supplies. These cushions tide me over during the shortages.

I have a friend who wants to buy some of my 45 Colt handloads. Told him I don't feel comfortable selling my handloads.He seemed a little annoyed but I explained to him 1. they are tailored to my gun 2. If there is one bad round ( which I doubt very much) in the batch there is no telling the damage it can do to you or your gun. He got the point and we are still friends.
