Our Gun Club is in danger.

OK, I've talked about this a little in the past, but here's what we are going to do.
Yesterday the Legion Post Holding Corp, (which I am a member of), voted to go ahead and invest in "Veteran's Village". This is a really big deal. Our post is closed and bankrupt, but we own four acres of very valuable land in the middle of a large suburb. The Post also owns our gun club.

We've had several offers to buy the property and build a small post in one of the apartment buildings they would build, that we could lease, but no guarantee that we could stay there indefinitely. We rejected that.

Instead we are signing on with a group that develops land like ours. They will handle all the permits, contractors, ect, and we will oversee the project and help design what we want. We will build an apartment complex that leans towards helping veterans but also provides middle income housing for many others. We will have our post built in the ground floor of one building facing our "Veteran's Park". We plan to include some apartments dedicated to families of patients in the nearby Vet's Hospital for their use while their family member is in treatment. We're minutes away from Fort Snelling Veteran's Hospital which is one of the best in the nation.

The city has already said they favor this. The banks are behind us, the Governor is behind us, our lawyers favor this. The Developer Group is doing their work, Pro Bono", which means for no profit. One senior member of this group is a lawyer and a former fighter pilot who did three tours in the VN war, was shot down twice, was a POW who escaped once and wants to do this for vets.

In the end the post will own the entire complex. The project is being hailed as a model for future posts.

Here we go, we're excited.👍😊
We went to dinner with friends last night and I was so pumped I couldn't get settled down until I had a martini.😁

Coop, that is awesome. What a win-win-win for everybody from the Post to the Vets and their families having housing.

The reason I'm so pumped is that we held sometimes three meeting a week for a year working this out.
I've had to drive fifteen miles to the post one way and we receive nor ask for an compensation.
This group of five has done a lot of work getting this done. I am proud of the work and so happy that
we came to a decision at last.
Here we go.

Our Gun club Banquet is Wednesday night and I will brief all the members present. At the same time the Post Commander will hold a post membership meeting and announce it to everyone else at that time. Those at the banquet will not be able to attend the membership meeting of course, so it will fall to me.

Congrats that's awesome, I've been a legion member 12 years and never stepped foot in a post, perhaps I should visit

The Gun Club is an American Legion owned club. We as the Holding Corp own the range as well as the post itself.
If the post goes under the Gun Club would be in danger as well.

So, the Commander briefed the membership Wednesday evening and got a standing ovation from the members.
I and another Holding Corp member briefed the members at the banquet and while not a stand "O", we got applause and not one
dissent. We meet again Sunday to sign the contracts with the full support of the 900 membership.

As a side note, the Gun Club operates as a separate entity, and at one point the post needed cash to pay bills until a bank loan
came through, the Gun Club loaned the cash and were paid back within a month. So the Gun Club helped save the post.

We're all working together in this effort.
