LA wildfires

We had a conversation with our son/stepson who loves being a California resident. (Funny, he was born there and lived there for eight years, then lived here from 8-22 and then moved back). Anyway, we asked him if he thought that with their homes being destroyed would there be an exodus of residents to other states and he didn’t think so. Not sure if I agree.

Also, I think he might have been wrong about his sister-in-laws home in Pacific Palisades. Looking at the damage map posted online while her actual home does not show damage status yet most of the homes in the area are fine. Fingers crossed. Her place is near the origin of the fire and close to the reservoir that is empty.

It's more than just the fires. It's also the water. Nature always wins in the end.

Son is doing water drops on the Hughes fire today.

We watched the attack on the Hughes fire live and I have to say that was one of the best coordinated and successful effort to fight a fire I could possibly imagine. Between the rotors, fixed wings, dozers and ground crews it was impressive to watch. Had the Pacific Palisades effort had less wind and more water I’m thinking the outcome would have been similar.

Thanks. The copters on the Hughes fire have a lake right there nearby. It's short hop between sucking up and dropping. Today his copter is on the Chula Vista fire. [Edit] Zooming in, it's actually the Border Fire today.

On the behalf of my family members living there a big hearty thanks to your son and the crew he serves with.

Saw on the news yesterday that one of the very small fire departments from around here that like Mag’s son deployed to CA to help was selected to provide fire protection for President Trump’s visit. This is the Northern Lakes FD that serves a couple of small towns north of Coeur d’alene Idaho. They serve the towns of Hayden and Rathdrum, places Sir Henry knows well. Pretty cool for little ole Northern Idaho.

I seen the meeting with the mayor of LA on the news. She stated that clean up could start in a week, Trump stated that was too long. I waiting to see if there are reports of clean up starting this week.

Thanks, I'll pass that along. He'll have at least 5 days off. With the rains that moved in I don't think he'll need to go back. I haven't talked to him yet. Oregon fire crews that went down to help, have also been released.
