Gene, if you ever want to go all out and get a fat bike, let me know. Fat bikes are kind of a religion for us up in snow country. We ride the in the winter, of course, but a lot of us, myself included, also ride them as trail bikes in the summer. Here's one of two I use, studded tires and all.



And this is me, dressed for a sub zero ride.

It’s definitely something I would be interested in next fall/winter. My beach cruiser will do for spring and summer. My original plan was to buy a summer home in Wisconsin and a winter home in Arizona. That all changed when I found this place with so much to do year round.

I just bought property at the very far north end of the 395 about 1/2 mile north of the border. I don’t have space for any kind of range without scaring the crap out of the neighbors, but I can be hunting or fishing in 2 minutes from the door.

I’m getting my MTB all tuned up for summer, but might have to invest in a fat bike too. Or maybe just a snowmobile;)

I have to keep up with fortyshooter on working on my range. I bought a new bed frame and stuck half of the old frame rail into the snow and hung the bell and gong on it. It won’t last like this however it did make shooting a lot more fun. The gong above the rail is for pellets and the one under it is for rimfire. With the snow slightly melting and then sub-zero temperatures last night it formed a hard enough crust the rimfire gong didn’t sink in like before.

My range work continues. I’m mainly getting distances and angles set up. I’ll later secure the targets and make them a little more interesting.

Very creative Gene and we know most any throw away can be target material! My neighbor was having new railing put up on his back porch so he gave me all the old round pipe railing. That stuff is 3/16th wall steel pipe and had little if any rust. Plenty for any future target hanging ideas!

Whoah! That’s like finding a hundred bucks or so in the pocket of a suit you haven’t worn in a year.

I discovered a new junk place today nine miles away. I needed a burn barrel and several people said the junk place would have them. While I was there I saw and bought other metal objects. This is the burn barrel.

This will make a good steel plate to stick in the ground for rimfire. I figure maybe 50 yards out. Right now it’s just stuck into the snow close by.

This old mailbox hanger will support a larger bullet trap at 25 yards. To get a picture I rested it on the first post. It won’t need it when in the ground with concrete.

The main attraction bought today is this pickup bed breakbar. It sits on a pickup bed horizontal and protects the rear window. I’ll put it vertical and will attach gongs and spinners. It’s supported by a bed frame for the picture.

Imagine everything placed more pleasing to the eye and painted hunter green with gongs and spinners bright red, orange and yellow with a blue thrown in. Maybe hang some flower baskets nearby.

I have always cut a dozen inch holes about a thir of the way up. How do you do it?

Remington hole saw cordless 870 !

Is there a proper distance? I don’t want it ventilated too much. Can I substitute a 45LC instead?

I tried driving stakes into the ground yesterday and hit frozen soil in a few inches. Hence things aren’t standing straight. Received an inch of snow overnight so it looks like I’m rushing the season.

Oh yeah .45 Colt will work fine. All depends on what size holes you want for air draft. With shotgun....slugs.

I’m amazed at how much a 7.62 made that barrel jump.

I moved the rimfire target stand further back and it’s a little more stable.

I bought some cheap burnt frying pans and thought they might make good targets but it doesn’t look like they will stand up to rimfire.

I’m color keying them; orange is rimfire and yellow is pellets. Red will be for centerfire.

I will be putting targets out on all four sides of the house so one set should always be in the sun. The set above is facing north and in the shade which makes them hard to see.

I moved the mailbox hanger and was able to drive the stake into the ground a little more. In a few weeks I’ll dig a small hole around the base and throw a bag of quick crete in it to make it hang straight.
