You probably already know this, but, for those who may not. When winching, or when using a chain, cable or snatch strap, always throw a blanket, coat, tarp or anything like that over the middle of the line. It's a safeguard in case it breaks. It will absorb the recoil. Could possibly save life or limb.

that is most certainly the case .... while the basics of using vehicle winch remain pretty much the same, there have been considerable advancements in both equipment and technique .... using a blanket has long been the norm ... now the have specially designed "Winch Dampeners" ===> https://www.harborfreight.com/winch-damper-57600.html ..... they have pockets to add weight so as to help reduce the recoil of a snapped cable .... I've never experienced a cable breaking under pressure and most certainly hope never to do so .... one of the features of our Badland Apex winch is a wireless remote control .... it has an 80' range that allows the person controlling the winch to get well out of the line of fire

thank you .... we are pleased with they way it is turning out .... no clue when a Bull Bar for it will be available, we've had one on backorder with Summit Racing since the 23rd of last month

I failed to mention that we also made a change in the location of the Westin Black Winch Tray Tow Hooks .... originally, as can be seen in the second picture below, we mounted them so stick out from under the Westin Winch Tray .... in the first picture can be seen how we relocated them so as to stick out through the slots in the front off the Winch Tray .... from a use stand point, both ways are fine, no difference in strength .... they were changed simply due to my wife liking the look of them coming through the slots

I visited a local harbor freight the other day as I was early for my doctor's appointment. I almost didn't recognize half of it. The prices they were asking for some of the items were in line with what I'd expect at other hardware stores. I wanted to get a few things though. They do have some tools that I would not often use, but when you need it, you need it. Where else can you get an 18 inch adjustable wrench for $21.00?

After thinking about it, I decided to get a few things elsewhere too. For the difference in price, I wanted the name brand.

they have a solid line of smaller Badland winches that are great for mounting on trailers .... they also offer some well designed accessories for plugin wiring to run the power from the power source to the winch .... with most of their lines you can get an option for a wireless remote that is really nice and can make it much easier and simpler to load and unload your trailer

Jim, the model I have is about one or two down from yours. Mine has a corded remote switch. Once I'm cleared to lift things, I will post a photograph for you.

as noted above, a month ago we ordered the stainless Bull Bar shown below for our Badland Apex winch .... per an email we learned that it should arrive day after tomorrow .... the price quoted a month ago was $278.99 plus Tax (no charge for shipping) .... in the last month its price from the same company has risen to $312.99 plus Tax (no charge for shipping) .... best price I currently see it listed on Amazon is $338.65 plus Tax (no charge for shipping) .... sure glad we ordered when we did

another step taken, Bull Bar installed .... I really enjoyed working on the install with our 13 year old grandson who is already taller than I am ... only thing left, figure out what we want and installing a light bar on the Bull Bar

FIRST USE .....

the first use of the Badlands winch we installed on our Chevy Silverado was a success .... last May we had one heck of a wind storm that brought down a large pine tree on the back line of our place .... the force of the fall drove one of the limbs into the ground .... in the first picture about 10" of the limb can be seen sticking out of the ground .... the second picture a couple of fee of the limb out of the ground .... the last shows the entire 5'+ limb out of the ground .... no clue how much force was required .... do know that setting the parking brake with the transmission in park pulled the truck toward the limb .... had to fully apply the trucks brakes to anchor it so as pull out the log

That’s some serious resistance from a limb stuck in the ground. That must have been some incredible force driving it into the ground.
