Bingo! I have developed a fear of leaving the borders of the USA.cooperhawk wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2026 9:44 amIt seems that our press and some leaders want us to hate our country, for whatever reason.

I agree. While serving in the Navy, I had an opportunity to visit Spain, France, Italy, Sicily, Greece, Russia, Denmark, England, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Canada and a few others, just to give an idea. Maybe, I am bias. During that time, I did not find a place that I would rather be. Even though I enjoyed myself, I typically long to return to the States.cooperhawk wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2026 9:44 amIt seems that our press and some leaders want us to hate our country, for whatever reason.

I watched last night. As a soccer ignoramus help me understand about that red card. In your opinion was it deserved or just another attempt to punish a dominate team? Seems like in many sports these days the refs are way too involved. My teams have been on the giving and the receiving ends of this.
Way to go USA!!!

I thought the Ref was biased towards the USA.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 9:58 amI watched last night. As a soccer ignoramus help me understand about that red card. He did a terrible job in my opinion. There were several instances where Bosnia pulled our players to the ground by grabbing our jerseys. That by rule is an automatic yellow card.
Messi had a similar play where he stomped on the defenders calf from behind and he wasn’t even called for a foul let alone given a Red card.
The Ref penalized the whole team with the Red card on our leading scorer. He can not play in our next game due to the Red card suspension.
It’s was a BS call…

Thanks for your opinions, pretty much what we thought but it’s nice to get confirmation from someone who understands the sport. We’re looking forward to Monday’s match.Coach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 1:16 pmI thought the Ref was biased towards the USA.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 9:58 amI watched last night. I guess the player's are skillful and it is a popular world wide sport but I find soccer pretty boring. Imagine if the scores for most baseball, football and basketball games were 1 to 0.

Awesome, as it should be. Now Belgium is appealing the appeal….
Soccer just continues to be an “interesting” sport. Looking forward to watching tonight’s match, go USA!

Well bummer. We lost 4-1 and were never really in the game.
All the host countries lost in the round of 16.

To our untrained eyes my wife and I agreed early on before the first goal that the US team just seemed to have a lack of energy. However, congratulation to the US team and coaches for reaching the round of 16. Well done!

our daughter says I'm the reason the US Soccer Team lost ..
.. I am not now nor have I ever been a fan of the sport of soccer at any level .... over time I've attended some kids level games when one of our granddaughters was playing .... don't ever recall seeing them win one .... after all the hype leading up to the US vs Belgium, I made up my mind to watch my first pro match .... my streak continues

Germany lost to Paraguay in Penalty Kicks. That's a tough one. Apparently, they had scored a second goal 2 - 1, but the goal was not counted due to a foul. Number 3 player kinda handled the goalie, grabbed his jersey for a moment and blocked the goalie's movements, while the other player kicked the ball into the goal. Tough luck. Paraguay got sent home by France.
This tournament demands enormous stamina from players. But, it isn't what it used to be anymore. All teams somehow buy & train their players.
Back in the olden days, those players were actual Germans, Italians, Frenchies, etc.
Excitement for the game runs in my blood, my dad used to jump up & down and yell in the living room. I am still not that interested. Only if the fever gets me.
And yes, it's not he goals per se, the tension and suspense is in the opportunities, the attacks, the defense, outplaying the other players. Ball control!
I get it, I like watching basketball games, high scores! But, consider. Nearly every top basketball player can score a hoop throwing the ball from the far opposite corner of the court. Steph Curry does it all day long. Lebron James left the Lakers. He wants to play a more meaningful game.

Just watched Argentina vs Switzerland 3:1. That was a tough game. The last 2 goals for Argentina were amazing!
