Oh, Brother !!

I don't like disassembling firearms. Some are easier than others, I still don't like it.
One can only hope a respectable gunsmith can be found who knows how to re-assemble it correctly.
With those old guns ... I said it b4, it shouldn't be the #1 shooter. There are plenty offerings for quality pistols in .22lr.
Target versions for example that I would rust to be very accurate. Rimfire target shooting is very popular.

The Walther is a nice firearm. I handled a 9mm version. I was looking for a 9mm under $500. I handled a Glock, Walther, Stoeger and others, that I don't remember. The Walther and Storger were very close, as far as a smooth trigger. The Storger's trigger was slightly smoother. It could hold more ammo and came optic ready. Even though it costed about $25 more, it seemed like a better buy. Yet, the slide on the Walther seemed lighter. So much so, I took my wife to the shop, to give it a try. She seemed to like my Stoeger, but the slide is a little to stiff for her. The slide on the Walther was more than she wanted to deal with as well. So, she is thinking about another revolver.

I was halfway joking when I mentioned the Walther P22. It was on sale at Turner's this weekend for 229 bucks. I had to feel it and it is amazing! Tiny pistol built into detail. It's meant to be a training pistol. I was thinking and couldn't come up with a particular reason to own one. Magazines cost 40 bucks though, I see one used for 200 at a Turner's store w/ 2 mags. I don't know how many mags come with it in the new package.

Browning has a nice selection of Buckmarks. One of them comes with a 4" barrel. Very cool. 500 bucks plus CA rip off fees & taxes.

I found out that my older 72 year old brother doesn’t listen to me, or doesn’t heed what I say. He asked me about doing a total breakdown and cleaning of the Woodsman. I told him NOT TO DO IT because it’s a very difficult process. I had researched it way back when and I saw that it was very hard to do.

Well you guessed it. He broke it down and when he put it back together the trigger didn’t work. Go figure. You know sometimes your little brother does know what he’s talking about!

Now he gets to pay a gunsmith to get it working again.

Update: The woodsman is at the gunsmith…

My brother is going to buy a modern .22. He’s intrigued with a 1911 .22 model. I told him 1911’s are traditionally finicky in small calibers. So, he probably won’t listen to me and get a 1911 model.

We will see.

This thread reminded me of a Jennings .22 that I had. It would only feed round nose ammo, hollow points would jam. It is the only firearm that I did not keep.

This is my "modern .22", a Taylors/Uberti Cattleman SAA Revolver. It's a six shot that is made using the same barrel and cylinder stock as their centerfire pistols, so it's basically identical to my .357 Taylors/Uberti Cattleman.

I recently avoided buying a similar revolver in .45lc. Also Taylor's & Company.
I had to budget myself. So I decided to put money on the Henry Big Boy Steel in .357. I am glad I did.

I have the Taylors/Uberti Cattleman SAA Revolver in .45LC to go with the Henry CCH in .45LC. Back when my pocketbook had a bigger spending tolerance.

Back on the .22 theme, my latest .22 acquisition was Heritage Arms Rough Rider. It was very inexpensive and shoots quite well.

Update: The saga continues.

He got the woodsman back from the gunsmith today. He went directly to the range to shoot it. The results were not good. He had failures to feed, fire, extract all over the place.

He even got bit with what I call dumb thumb = having your thumb over your grip thumb on a semiautomatic. So he got bloodied up with railroad tracks. The thing is that I had just told him the story when I did the same thing when I first started shooting. It’s something that you usually only do once…

He’s now on his way back to the gunsmith.

I’m taking him to my range tomorrow and I will get him straightened out. We will be shooting the following pistols: Sig P-320 9mm, H&K VP9, Springfield 1911 TRP .45 and a Walther P 22.

In conclusion, my lovely brother has made all this much harder than it should have been…

He liked the H&K VP9 the most.

He needs to slingshot the dang slide. He kept letting it close slowly which causes problems chambering the first round.

That might be something that was causing him problems with the Woodsman.

Good catch! Hopefully, he will take note of that. Just like a level action rifle, you have to cycle it, like you mean it.
