SA Blues
My .357 Taylor's and Co. Uberti SmokeWagon is heading back to their gunsmith for repairs. A spring that would keep the cylinder from turning apparently snapped. Now, it spins freely regardless of where the hammer is set. They offered to send me the part, saying it was a simple fix, but I selected to let him do it. I hope he'll also inspect it and detect anything that might have occurred by the last three rounds I fired. The primers were dented at their very edge, so the cartridges were likely misaligned with the barrel. CS said I'll get a prepaid shipping label by email on Monday.

Re: SA Blues
Those are really easy to work on. I would have just taken the spring.

Re: SA Blues
Yeah. I may be the only one here that would send it back.

Re: SA Blues
I considered one of them before I bought my Ruger Vaquero.
How do you like it otherwise?

Re: SA Blues
It is a beautiful gun. It shoots straight and I like the grip and the way it feels in my hand. I've put a bit more than two hundred rounds through it (I only got as far as 18 rounds yesterday before the spring broke or it would be 250). So far, Taylor's & Co. has been very responsive, but the gunsmith told me the springs can/will break, so I ought to bite down on a bullet and figure out how to work on it.Cowboy Gun Fan wrote:How do you like it otherwise?

Nuts!
I guess everyone listens to the blues from time-to-time; still it's not fun when a firearm has to leave home. Just hope Taylor's & Co. is "upbeat" with their repair service, and that your SW is back home really soon! Just surprising that it happened so early on, after only 200 rounds....

Re: SA Blues
Thanks. I confess that I listen to the blues quite often, but I was really singing the blues after that spring went bust so soon. I'll keep you posted.PT7 wrote: I guess everyone listens to the blues from time-to-time... surprising that it happened so early on, after only 200 rounds....

Re: SA Blues
On the positive side it will be like unwrapping a Christmas present when you get it back. And an excuse to go shoot, can't beat that.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday.
Re: SA Blues
No shame in having CS fix it. Still, with Colt SAA clones, they do tend to break fairly often (which is why Ruger has sold a zillion Vaqueros and New Vaqueros over the years). If you're going to shoot yours a lot, you may want to learn to replace springs in it.

Re: SA Blues
Thanks, ditto. I'm beginning to understand that. I just wish I knew someone nearby who already knows how to do it. Youtube is helpful, but one-to-one guidance can be a whole lot better.

Re: SA Blues
You must have the older model guns . Since you sent them to the factory back I'm sure they will upgrade to the new design springs and cylinder pawl which they should never break again . The old Colt design flat springs did break a lot . The new pawl and 1 spring is a Ruger pawl .

Re: SA Blues
I bought the gun NIB in December, but it could easily have been on the distributors shelf for years. I've never asked when it was made, but I will do that just for my own info. Thanks for the reply and advice. It pretty good to have a Firearms Advisor on board.tx gunrunner wrote:You must have the older model guns.

Re: SA Blues
The other flat spring replacement and is for trigger and cylinder stop . After rereading your post this is more likely the one you needed .

Re: SA Blues
Thanks for your help. I'm sending the gun back to Taylor's today. They emailed a prepaid FedEx label.tx gunrunner wrote:The other flat spring replacement and is for trigger and cylinder stop . After rereading your post this is more likely the one you needed .
After this, I'm going to learn how to maintain it myself. Or try, anyway.

Update: SA Blues
The repaired revolver arrived today. Taylor's and Company turned it around very quickly. I'm pleased about that; but I do intend to get more familiar with caring for this and other SAA guns in the future.

Re: SA Blues
One week turn around is outstanding. Now get out there and shoot it.

Re: SA Blues
I agree with Seabee...that's really excellent turnaround time on your SW. I think an important part of owning a new gun is how well the CS is done by the company. When they're good, I always appreciate it a lot.
So congrats, and glad your revolver is safely home!!
Enjoy, CT.
