A friend brought his ne Ruger over for me to try. Being an old combat sniper, this thing quickly put a smile on my face. Being 200 fps faster and a little bigger then the 6.5 Creedmore , it carried it's bullets downrange at my 100 yard steel gong and put two one inch holes cleanly through. This thing shakes the earth when you pull the trigger. I love it. Though I love it, I would not have liked to hump this heavy monster through the steamy jungles of Vietnam. I can see it pulling guard on the perimeter of base camp with it's ability to probably shoot a mile.

Sounds like a great rifle and a great round. Keep smiling.

Yea, I agree toting around the M-14 Sniper was heavy enough not even considering the ammo and starlite scope.

Sometimes when I look back, I wonder how I did it. That was on my second tour when they sent me over after sniper school. I still carried roughly 1000 to 1200 rounds of ammo for it, just in case I had to go full rock and roll or if we got in a big one. That and all the other stuff, grenades, claymores, trip flares, you know the routine. Not to mention two canteens and a titty bag of water plus C's. The real kicker was, since they knew I was a point man my first tour, they made me pull point after our point man got it . At the time ,we were in the Asha Valley, thickest jungle I ever had to brake brush in. That M-14 got hung up on every wait-a -minute vine there was. My young butt was draggin.
