Winchester 94AE Big Loop Carbine .45 Colt

I was in my LGS a couple of weeks ago and came upon a near pristine Winchester described in the title of this post. Only issue is two small dings in the stock. The price was very attractive so I went ahead and bought it. The action is quite smooth although not as smooth as my BBS in the same caliber. Also, it does have the cursed crossbolt safety, but I can live with that since the saddle ring kind of covers it up. Further, and I hate to say it, but the rifle does not feel as solidly built as my Henrys. The wood on the bottstock is very proud of the buttplate and the lever is a tad more wobbly too. After 4 shells laded in the loading gate, the magazine tube spring starts getting really stiff. Anyway, I like the looks of the gun and will wring it out along side my BBS this weekend! :D

The late model AEs had their share of issues - and what you have described with yours was fairly common with them.
Hopefully you don't experience the dreaded feed issue some PC models had in that they would occasionally drop a round under the cartridge lift on cycling and was very difficult to remove,
Unfortunately this was a common problem and frustrated many owners - including me with my .357 AE which caused me to sell it in 2014 and buy my Henry!

Other than the known issues with the AEs they are a solid rifle with typically great barrels, receivers and internals and pretty nice finish as they are of the 'post' sintered metal era and back to a machined receiver.

Regardless the AEs will always be desirable (especially in PC versions) as they are part of the last U.S. made Winchesters.

I sometimes regret selling mine but I had enough of it and did VERY well selling it.

Congrats on the new to you Winnie.
I have one of the early AE's (no CBS) but mine is a 30-30.

Pic when you get a chance.

I have a 1985 AE in 30-30 also. Works as it should. What is PC version?

I have been using my AZOOM 45 Colt snap caps in it and function is flawless with them. I was doing a close inspection of the finish last night and there are NO scratches anyehere on the metal parts. I think this gun was rarely shot and was a safe queen until put on consignment at my LGS.
