Ruger 77/22

I've wanted one of these for some time, but could never justify the price of admission. I picked this one up new last year, after it moved to a 'clearance' rack at a local shop. They must have had it for some time, as the .22 LR version has been out of production since 2016 (a serial number check says Ruger shipped it in 2015). It had already been marked down $150, and being on the clearance rack meant an additional 25% . SOLD!

I have always liked those myself. A very nice, full size .22 bolt rifle. Excellent buy.

I have one but its not ever been as accurate as I thought it should be. Need to play with it a little more maybe.

Nice rifle and great deal. Had one years ago but foolishly sold it. Many a ground squirrel fell victim to it.

I haven't shot this one enough yet to know for sure, but if the results at 25yds are any indication, I think this one may be a keeper. This past weekend, the temps climbed above freezing for a bit, so I took it out to do a quick sight-in. I got it as close as I could eyeballing down the bore, then got to work... One magazine (10 rounds) of CCI standard velocity reads like this...

Rounds 1 and 2 (covered) at 1 o'clock, about 1/2" out from the red...adjust
Rounds 3 and 4 (covered) at 2 o'clock, one just touching the red...adjust, cover the holes for shots 1-4, adjust (see what I did there?).
Round 5 at 8 o'clock, just inside the red. Eh? Thought about it for a minute, and dialed the scope 1/2 way back to where it was after shot 4.
Rounds 6-10 made one hole.

I've always admired the 77/22 and had one, myself. Interesting bolt gun and yours has some nice wood. I think the rise in popularity of CZ rimfires hurt the sales of the 77/22, though. The CZs were also in that niche of a walnut and steel 22, but at a more affordable price.

That’s a beauty! I’m finally going to get my Ruger American .22 LR out on Saturday. I hope it’s as good as yours! What scope is that? Looks to be a Loopy? I’ve got a Nikon Rimfire 4-12x40 on mine.

Thanks. It is a Leupold...the 3-9X33 EFR. I tried to fit one of my Nikons, but it wouldn't clear the bolt with medium rings...this one fits with lows. I think the Americans have a 60 or 70 degree bolt swing...much more forgiving of large eyepieces. That's one downside to the 77 series.
Those shots were standing, with the fore-end on a sandbag, and only at 25yds, so not a real good indication of capability, but it is encouraging.
