Got a golden 39-A mountie

Post by Ozarkwoodswalker » Wed Oct 30, 2019 4:32 pm

Got the real thing instead of a chiappa knockoff. Bought it on GunBroker...made in 1961. Described as a safe queen. Looks neat new. Excited to get my paws in it and work the action.....ah the fun if a 22! Squirrels beware....wah ha ha!!!

Glad to see you got a 39!
You now own a piece of legendary rifle history - that of Marlin making the first lever action .22 and to be in continuous production for over 100 years!

Unless it comes to you like new clean I would highly recommend you give it a complete teardown and cleaning.
The mod 39s were known to have very tight tolerances and operate best when clean and free of gunk.

Have owned many a 39A, as have others on this forum. Enjoyed them all. Congrats on a great classic 22.

Oh yeah! Those 39's are awesome. I have a 39a from 1957, it's been used, but, it is tight still. The fella that had it before me couldn't stand the semi buckhorn and replaced it with a folding William's adjustable rear sight. You're going to really enjoy that 39. I forget, does the Mountie have the shorter barrel? Enjoy!!!!

Local Pawn shop has a 39 Article II and an 1897 Century limited. Don't know what you paid for yours but I have a notion to go look at them. I do own a 39A now but I have room for another. Both are nice looking from what I can tell online. Congrats on the 39 I like mine.

When you get your knew rear sight mount it and use the bullhorn to get your winddage set. At least you will be pretty close when you get to the range to zero in.

Scary moment when I first saw my 39 golden mountie. It looked nice, except the marlin bull's-eye on the bottom of the stock was gone! The lady at the gun shop that unpacked said...well it was packed and shipped in white shredded paper. She went back to the trash can she had dumped the packing in and brought it out and dumped it out on a great big table right in their showroom . Get and I went through the giant pile of white shredded paper and just when I was disparing, I found it! So now, any advice on the best way to put it back in where it will stay?? Super glue? Or???? Thanks
