Well another 'want' - this time close enough to consider but wrong caliber!
Regardless a beautiful 1988 BLR in .257 Roberts - and Original box & paperwork as well!

beautiful indeed .... it would probably pay for anyone interested in a first generation BLR to explore the difficulty in finding a second magazine .... they are getting harder and harder to find

Yea this rifle is kind of 'Top Dollar at $1200 asking - but it is a very nice 2nd Gen mod 81 in a desirable caliber - and I wish it were a .243 Win!

Is that the one that was recently listed on gunbroker? I thought about bidding but already have a Ruger No. 1 in 25-06 and a .257 Roberts is not much different. Congrats! Looks like a very nice addition. Let us know how it shoots!

Yeah, you're right. Eyes aren't doing to good right now. I had my monthly injections of Avastin in each eye this morning at the doctor's. Eyes are really weepy still.

As a long time fan of the 257 Bob, if you reload, ballistically, it can do anything the 243 can do and more. Has a larger case capacity and a wider range of bullets than the 243. After all, before gun writers pushed the 243, the 257 was considered the perfect dual purpose cartridge of the day. It helped to start the concept. The 257 was widely praised by the likes of jack O'Connor. It has gotten a bum rap from SAAMI, who limit the max pressure for the sake of old Mausers that were re-chambered to the 257 from the 7x57 (the parent cartridge). Even that is bogus, since in Europe, the CIP standard for pressure is higher. Take a look at the 257. It really is a neat cartridge.

My 250 Savage and my 257 Roberts were both 24" barrel 700 Remington Classics. I never had a 243 and that was more than a few that would drop deer
like the 25 caliber rifles would. Not saying the 243's were bad just that the Roberts and the Savage were better plus the option to use 117 gr and 120 gr. bullets for game larger than white tail deer. The gun rag guys killed the Roberts and the Savage with their over rated hype they put in the magazines at that time. My opinion YMMV.

True, except utilize my existing stock of .243 brass, bullets, powders & dies.
