One that has been hard to find

Today I stopped at a friends home and of course we talked guns. He asked if I had a 39A stock he could buy from me and I told him I had a brand new fore arm and stock. So one thing led to another and he asked me about a short barrel 336. He said I didn't measure the barrel but it is short. He said it also has a short stock. I asked if he meant it was the youth model. He told me he didn't see youth on the barrel or any where. So he went and got it out and sure enough it is a 336 in 30-30 and has a Y after the 336. Has a 16 1/4" barrel. It was made in 2003 and is the walnut stocked one and I believe the later ones were birch stocks. I have been looking for a while to pick one of these up and I got out bid on one at a big auction in Gettysburg a few years back by a dealer. This gun looks unfired and don't even show where a round was slid across the loading gate. No burred up screws and bluing and wood is new condition. So now I have one and don't have to look any more.

Good for you. Pst pics when you can.
As for that short barrel, not to worry at all about losing any performance with the 30-30. The 30-30 does a great job in that short a barrel.

The stocks in the back ground the left on is from a rare 39A I am doing some work on to bring it back to nice condition for a friend for his silhouette shooting rifle and the other two was wood from the Marlin 1897 Century Limited that Numrich got from the left over wood Marlin had after the 2000 units were completed. I have three sets I am going to use to dress up some of my plain looking 39A's. I plan on one being shiny finish just because I want one to be different. These will be winter projects after hunting season.
