Marlin 60

Post by gpraceman » Sat Dec 26, 2020 3:37 pm

I inherited my grandpa's 1977 Marlin 60 "Pesky Squirrel". It's a great shooter. Feeds much better now after I overhauled the action and replaced the feed throat. I also added in the last shot hold open feature, which was added to the model in 1983 (I believe that was the year).

I have one as well not the Pesky Squirrel but I do have a 60 and it shoots very well. My wife likes to shoot it.
Don't let the old man in

Good rifle, I have one as well. Don't think it has the last shot hold open feature, would be handy. Good looking rifle.

I've owned and shot enough of the 60s to know they are an accurate rifle. Have a lot of respect for them. That's a nice one.

I had a Model 60 in the M-1 configuration. It had the 100th year commenerative medallion in the but stock. I gave it to my 2nd grandson on his 12th B'day. I shot every brand of 22lr and it would shoot 1" groups @ 25yds from Winchester Wildcats, Western Auto brand, Remmington golden, etc... I loved that gun. I had a Weaver 6x on and it was almost as long as the gun. Killed just about everything.

I like the slim lines of the Marlin 60. May get one if Biden doesn't outlaw anything semi-auto,

It wasn't too hard to add that.

This is my wife's favorite to shoot. Probably because of the low recoil and she is most accurate with it.

That’s a nice looking 43 year old rifle. Thanks for posting the pic. In 1973 I bought the Glenfield version of the same rifle with the squirrel stock but this is the first time I have heard the expression “Pesky Squirrel”. I like it! :D

Had one back in the early 60s, much to the chagrin of numerous rabbits and squirrels.

Have one now! Reliable shooter, I may have done a "little" modifications to it. It's still a fun shooter.

The shooting world is always GAGA over the Ruger 10-22. And sure it can be a fine shooter ,,,,, AFTER you strip off everything but the receiver and replace with a couple of hundred dollars in aftermarket stuff. All good fun IF that is what you want to do.
But ,,, for an off the shelf , good shootin , vermin poppin , Grandkid training , pleasant plinker , I'll take a Marlin 60 ,,,, everytime.
