The morning after the beating

I am glad deer season does not start today. I would have to hunt with my Sheridan pump up 5MM pellet rifle after the beating the Marlin 444 gave me yesterday. Maybe I am just getting old and weak but I feel almost like I did when a car hit me on my motor cycle. My shoulder I can hardly touch it and my neck feels like a case of whiplash. Maybe it is because I never sat down and shot 30 rounds at on sitting with that beast. It may be up for sale soon after deer season. I hardly hunt deer any way. I won't be using it Saturday if I go out at all that day. The scoped one second from bottom is the one that won the battle yesterday.

Maybe I am just getting old and weak

first, nice looking trio .... blood thinners and arthritis are playing havoc with my ability to take a pounding from a hard kicking firearm of any type .... if/when I ever do go big game hunting again, I'll probably have our oldest son sight in whatever I hunt with ....

That sure is a pretty butt-stock on the Marlin with the scope.

Bandit, were you shooting from the bench or from a standing position with the 444? When I was shooting mine from the bench, I used a "sissy bag", a small sandbag placed between the butt and my shoulder. That was the only way I could shoot that beast from the bench. Now, shooting from a standing position was much more doable and no need for the sissy bag.

I don't hunt any more so I have switched over to .22 LR to avoid punishment.

Dang, 30 rds., that is a lot of bangs.
I probably wouldn't be able to raise my arm at all.
If I were going to shoot that many I would drag out the lead sled for part of that.
And as Hatchdog mentioned that is one beautiful stock.

Some very nice looking rifles, Bandit. My 45/70 did me pretty much the same way. Left a nice yellow bruise on my shoulder for several days.
