Hey North Country Gal,
My wife and I like to travel for fall foliage. We have never been to Wisconsin.
What’s the best week to travel in northern Wisconsin?
Is there a noteworthy place that’s great to drive around there for foliage viewing?

Peak color in northern Wisconsin is typically the first week of October, but it can vary depending on the weather, of course. The southern part of the state is a week to two weeks behind that. Anywhere in central or northern Wisconsin is good, but the farther north you go, the more forested land, pretty much from Steven's Point and up.

Here's a good resource with the latest color forecasts, https://www.travelwisconsin.com/fall-co ... gIP0PD_BwE

Speaking of the Marlin 357, I've been watching this 2002 made 1894 on GB and, sold tonight for $917.

I'd just as soon of paid that for it vs a new one.
But, to me if I could find a pre safety model at that price I'd be all over it.

Just one little problem with auto loaders, if you handload and don't have a dog trained to retrieve brass, then you had better have stock in Starline.

I don’t mind buying used. I haven’t bought a used firearm yet. If I do, I would hope that it would be less than a new one. If not, I would probably leave it there. To me, a used item should come with a discount. I am not a collector. So, it would be hard for me to get over paying a new price for a used item. Yet, I do understand that some items to appreciate in value. However, I would still look for something new. Unless, there is nothing comparable on the market.

I have WAY more guns that were previously owned than I EVER bought new. :o
Now the amount given on any particular depends on several things.
At the moment I'm watching a 1982 Marlin 1894, I love (presafety models) on an auction site.
It's a pretty clean rifle with a couple scratches in the wood and I didn't notice any in the metal, but
I'm betting it goes for as much as a brand new one does.
If it don't get to crazy it may reside in TN before too long. :)

Besides like NCG said earlier, if ya pay a grand for a new one then possibly having to send it back to the danged factory a time or two.
Then as Al, send it to a Smith on your dime this time just to get something like we used get from a lot of the manufacturers back in the day.
Old guns don't bother me. ;)

I guess everything becomes used, at some point. Now, all of my firearms are used :) . But, some are more used than others. Buying used is not a bad thing. My wife picked up a used Ruger LCR 38 +p last year. She paid around $400, which I thought was on the upper end. Yet, it was in good shape and about $100 less than a new one.

I have purchased plenty of used vehicles. I have even considered a classic. Most classic are not produced any more. So, it would be more for show than driving, reminiscing about the days past. That kind of why I like lever actions and revolvers. Even though I was not alive during their heyday, they still seem to invoke pleasant thoughts.

So, buying used has its pluses: value, sentiments, rarity. If I can, I prefer to purchase new though, and it becomes used. That way, I will know the good, bad and ugly of it. Of course, we can buy things new that may be junk, and we can buy things used, which can be junk also. Most times, I just prefer to take my chances with new stuff vice used. In the case of a used firearm, I am not knocking anyone who purchases a used firearm. I would probably buy one, if the price is right.

A good example of new v used. Recently I was in a LGS and took a look at a S&W 617. They had a new one and a used one and the price difference was only $50. Thought that was not much of a savings to buy used but with the luck some on here have had with new purchases maybe used is a good idea. Hopefully who ever bought it new worked all the bugs out. Or maybe they just dumped it off at the LGS.

Most of our guns we bought used. Only a small number have been new. Part of that is the fact that I shoot and like guns that are out of production, now, such as old model Rugers, Contenders and Encores and various discontinued models of Smiths, Colt, CZ, Anschutz and so on. I am very familiar with those guns, though, because I was shooting them when they were in production. I know them well enough to correctly assess condition and value, so my track record with used guns has actually been pretty good.

Might be different if I could buy everything I want, new, but the guns I like and the types of shooting I've done over my life are no longer as popular, so I buy used. And, yes, older vintage guns were made in a different way, in a different era. I appreciate that, too.
