Re: The red dot rossi report
I might make one for Tina, try and carve a deer or her name on it.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: The red dot rossi report
They certainly make it easier to get a decent cheekweld. The one on my Henry is fairly crude but its functional.

Re: The red dot rossi report
That looks great, nice work for sure. I use a cheek riser too buy mine’s one of those store bought ones.
Re: The red dot rossi report
So, it has to look something like this, and this is THE minimum height for seeing the dot, in the bottom of the window.

I thankfully did remember to make sure this one tapers downward toward the muzzel end so as to not slam so hard into the orbital bone upon firing. Its bad enough with the 44mag so I van only imagine how bad it would be with a 454.
Of course its totally shapable at this point and I may do shome final shaping and then the small details and the lacing and a finish. Im thinking just neetsfoot oil on this one but its about at its final shape. I know it looks quiye high and a bit wonky but thats the height it needs to be to be of any use with that dot. It is comfortable though so that counts for something.

Re: The red dot rossi report
Is there a stock that would align better for optic use?
You'd think that with all the new tactical levergun options, that someone somewhere would have one that gives proper comb height on a replacement stock.

Re: The red dot rossi report
Not that Im aware of. I dont think I could anyway, all of that "tactical" levergun stuff is about as ridiculous as it gets. Ive come to loath that word, tactical. Personally I dont know how a firearm, or any other inanimate object can be tactical. The word implies having tactics no?
Ill see how this works out. I think, well hope that with some final shaping this wont look as unbalanced, and it is quite comfortable.
On an 1892, a stock would have to have a pretty high comb to facilitate the use of any optic. Youll note how low that little red dot is, can you imagine trying a scope? If it wasnt a rossi I might be persuaded to attempt making a stock set for it but knowing me the way I do I would have to use some aaa fancy walnut and again, its a rossi.

Re: The red dot rossi report
Color worked out nicely. The “stacked” pieces of leather making the riser look nice, the lamination works great for the visual.
Re: The red dot rossi report
Yeah, the color is about the best thing about it. Well that and I can use the dot with a good cheekweld now. That was the goal.
