Remington 40-X-BR stock

Post by bandit1250 » Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:48 am

I bought a 40X-BR stock a year ago next month and started taking the finish of to do a dull Tru-oil finish on it then set it aside to work on the 39A-DL Squirrel rifle. Now the Marlin is done I am back to the 40-X stock. These target rifle stocks were picked by Remington for there very straight grain walnut for stability to not warp and change like the fancy wood due to the humidity and other elements. They look plain to most good black walnut with very little to no figure especially from the action forward. I am going to try this on my 700 Varmint that is already converted to single shot and that is what the stock was from on the single shot 40-X. The 700 is in a stock I made but the 40-X stock is slightly wider in the fore stock and very flat so it may sand bag a little better than the stock I made. I will have to free up the recoil lug area from the glass bedding there now and do a skim coat of acra-glas on the action and tang area after sanding some of the glass out. That way I can get a good fit on my action and lug. I don't want to change the fore stock shape on the stock I made is why I got this stock. This is the fore arm shape now on my stock.

Pure bench rest stock, for sure, but if anyone can dress it up and make it look good, it's you. Enjoy.

Your good luck is holding up well. In this case you get the best looking wood to work with and you do and excellent job at bringing out the beauty!
