I know there is quite a few on here that have one. I was a little frustrated with how the bolt release worked on mine as I about wore the end of my finger out pushing in and up on the release down under by the trigger guard. As 10/22 owners all know there is no end to the aftermarket products and upgrades out there. Ive ordered from this company before. Tandemkross makes a replacement bolt release for the 10/22. Simple to install and it allows the release of the bolt by just pulling back on the bolt handle. Works great. No more four letter words while trying to release the bolt. Price of the part 10.00 shipped.

Yep, Al I know what ya mean, but I don't own one any more,
I had a pair of SS models for the longest. Now they belong to the youngest two.
I have a pair of Marlin semi-autos now.
A 89C and a model 60.

The bolt release was the first thing I had to fix on mine. I did the do it yourself with a file. It works great. The only reason I could see for the way they build them that way is so they can sell them in all markets. The other big change I had to make was the trigger. I sent mine to Brimstone Gunsmithing. Worth every cent, it breaks really clean at just a hair over 2 lbs. with no creep at all. My 10/22 is no doubt one of my three favorite fun guns after my Henry Mare's Leg .22 and my Uberti Stallion.

I read about the file to point out of the heart shaped slot but I just thought Id go this other route. Ive also read about the trigger job that brimstone does. Mine has the Ruger BX trigger in it came that way from the factory. It has a small amount of creep but breaks at about 3lbs. Not sure what I might do with it if anything but I like the gun so far alot.

I’ve done that modification to a few of mine. I have several vintage 10/22’s like a 1968 and 1970 finger grove sporter that I left alone.

The Brimestone trigger job includes the bolt release Al installed. It’s a great improvement.

Al, I didn’t know the Target 10/22 came with the BX trigger. Much better than a standard trigger.

We still have our mid 80s SD and we also put in the BX trigger, though we still have the original trigger. First used gun my husband and I bought, together, so we'll never sell it. I'd still make room in the gun safe for a 60s or early 70s carbine, given that a friend of mine and I used to do a lot of fun plinking with his uncle's first year 10/22.

I wondered that at first when I bought it Hatch. But they let me test the trigger out at the gun shop and when I had the trigger out I saw the hammer shape which from research on the net is the one they use in the BX. The trigger pull itself is also good.

When I bought our 10/22 T about ten years back, there was nothing listed in the specs as to the 10/22T having anything special as a trigger, but ours definitely had a trigger comparable to the BX. Don't know if it was actually the BX, but it was definitely not a standard 10/22 trigger.

I have a 10/22 TD, installed a Kidd trigger, firing pin, extractor, charge handle & guide rod, bolt buffer and a Magpul Backpacker stock. For Christmas I’m buying it a Trijicon red dot. These 10/22’s are worse than owning a boat!!

Al, I have a mid 80's run of the mill 10/22 and one of the first generation take down 10/22s. Both are as they came from the factory and will likely stay that way. I'm familiar with all the aftermarket parts that could go onto and into one. To me, it would make it a different gun. That's just me. If someone put together a gun with all the aftermarket parts and I liked it, I might buy it that way.

Totally understand leaving them original if they function to ones satisfaction. I bought one of the take downs a few years ago but could never get it to shoot like i thought is should and got rid of it. The target model was a total fight to get the bolt to release with the stock release system thats why I changed it. Im on the fence as to how much more i will do to it.
