Costly Procrastination
For the last several weeks I have had an opportunity to pickup a .30-30, pre '64 Winchester model 1894, and I did not act on that opportunity quickly enough. The rifle belonged to a friend who inherited an immense collection of rifles, shotguns and hand guns from a relative who passed away last summer. I spent several hours assisting my friend in inspecting the firearms to determine if any were loaded (2 were), researching the values on many rifles and shotguns, and disassembling/cleaning 8 guns that I thought were the most valuable within the entire collection. To show gratitude, my told me I could have any 2 guns from the collection. I chose just one gun, a model 1899 .30-40 Krag carbine. About 3 weeks later I looked at several more guns from the collection that I had not seen before and spotted the Model 1894.
I would have taken the rifle home that day, bit I knew my wife would "pitch a fit" if she knew I had acquired an additional gun ( I own 16 long guns) even if the gun was free. Yesterday, my fried called me with the outstanding news that she had sold the entire collection to an FFL dealer for twice the amount he had offered her 2 months earlier, and had loaded up the entire collection into his van and drove away. I guess I won't have an opportunity like that ever again.

This is the part I don't understand - I mean if it was free what would have been the reason for the 'fit' ?pitch a fit" if she knew I had acquired an additional gun ( I own 16 long guns) even if the gun was free

.
even so, 1 more added to 16 isn't likely to be even noticed. there is camouflage in numbers.

Have more than that in long guns, and am running out of space, but
ifn I was getting another for free I'd find a place, and I already own 5 30-30's.
Glad my wife doesn't complain about my addiction.

Re: Costly Procrastination
I know I'm blessed. Miss Tina doesn't complain about what I buy, and I don't complain about what she wants. In return, we are both reasonable in our spending. It helps that our hobbies are productive. She mostly buys for her sewing / quilting or soap making. I mostly buy for the wood shop or the guns / reloading, but haven't been buying much for that lately. My bucket list is short, but distinguished. LOL.
I ran into the problem with the safe capacity, bought a long gun safe, not expensive, but concealable.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Costly Procrastination
I have a completely full safe, and try to stick to a one in, one out format, but I’d make room for an orphan if one came along;)

Re: Costly Procrastination
I wouldn't sweat it too much...the wife is not unhappy, and if you really want a 94 in .30-30, it is about the most common, most affordable, and easiest to find. A little tough to swallow that it was a pre-'64, and would have been free, but there's lots out there, and you ended up with something pretty cool.
