Remington 66
Remington 66
Stopped in at the LGS today and found a nylon Rem 66 22 lr in great shape. Bluing is very good, no rust or scratches and the barrel is clean and shiny. There are a few light scratches on the stock but overall the gun is very nice. Did not have one of these sooo.... it followed me home. Merry Christmas to me.

Nylon 76 "Trailrider." Big dollars for a really nice one. Only lever action ever built by Remington Arms.
Re: Remington 66
Young man at the store told me they are a problem to take apart. Guess I will have to check out the "experts" on YT.

Re: Remington 66
just got off of the phone with the gunsmith who for several years has taken care of a wide range of firearms issues, mods, upgrades, adjustments, etc for us .... he said that the Model 66's have been out of production for so long that there simply isn't a good parts source out there .... I wasn't aware that there are outfits who specialize in removing every possible part form unrepairable firearms and sell them .... a salvage type operation .... he's going to take a look at ours .... if he can repair the rear sight, fine .... if not, he'll install a scope

There was also a bolt action model. Also very rare.

They have a reputation for being accurate. Do the not? To the consternation of some when they came out as I remember.

Re: Remington 66
They made three models in the bolt action. Model 10, 11, and 12. Used the 510, 511, and 512 barreled actions. 510 was a single shot and 511 had a six shot mag and the 512 was a tube feed. They were carbine length barrels of a little less than 20". Before they stopped making them they made a very small number of 24" barrel models that in like new condition will bring a $1000 from collectors. The really rare bird was the Model 10 smooth bore that I have never seen. Collectors would pay $2000 up for a NIB one. The nylon bolt rifles had the butter knife Mannlicher style bolt handles. They were great shooters and they were super light to carry in the woods for squirrel hunting. As far as I know all three models had factory grooved receivers.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 8:26 pmThere was also a bolt action model. Also very rare.
There was also a Model 77 semi auto that was a magazine fed model in Mohawk brown and a green stocked model 77 made for K-Mart.

Re: Remington 66
I stripped mine down for a cleaning when I brought it home...don't remember having any difficulties. When you pull the receiver cover off, the ejector will likely fall out and give you a scare...don't worry, it is 'floating' and held in place by the tin receiver cover. There is only one place and one direction it can go back in.
When putting it back together use little to no lube...these things are meant to run 'dry'. One thing to be careful of...when tightening the 2 cover screws, don't get carried away with how tight you go. Too much torque on those screws can cause the action to bind up.
Re: Remington 66
I had forgotten about the earlier posts, appreciate the reminder. Looked at the videos and I am ready to take this apart and clean up. Thanks!
Re: Remington 66
Not at all. Other than CCI Quiet (most semi-autos won't cycle them anyway), it eats anything I feed it. I have heard that they prefer higher velocity rounds, but I have been using sub-sonic and 'standard velocity' cartridges with no problems.
