Cucumbers and hot dogs

Post by daytime dave » Tue Jul 16, 2024 7:59 pm

I would normally not associate the two, hot dogs and cucumbers, but I was remembering my mother used to slice fresh cucumbers and onions very thin and mix them with sour cream and a little vinegar. As I made some this afternoon, I thought it might go well with a hot dog. It did.

I can do the cukes and onions in red wine vinegar but Ill let you tougher than me eat the dogs. After cooking hundreds of hot dogs for sporting events for the local University I just can’t do any hot dogs

My mom made it often and I make it occasionally but she used and I use mayonnaise instead of sour cream. Never tried it with hot dogs but I suppose it would be good. I still like hot dogs, Ball Park franks, regular meat not all beef, mustard, catsup and either some sweet relish or sauerkraut.

Al, I have two favorite hot dogs in Upstate NY. I've had a Nathan's at the original location, a few other noteworthy ones here and there, but I always come back to Hoffman's and Glaziers.
I tried the cuke and onion mix on one of each. The glazier did it best. Up by Paul Smith's college in the Adirondacks, a man always had a hotdog cart all summer. He was I'll a few years ago and I haven't seen him since. He would make Michigans, which was a Glazier smothered in meat sauce. They are the best.
I can understand your being worn out with hot dogs. I think I would be too.

If it isn't storming today, the grill be on with some of each dog and the cukes and onions ready.

I see we can get the Glaziers out here but no Hoffmans. Ive had some Bison hot dogs and Nathans in the past but so far this summer I have not been able to even think I might want one. Enjoy yours Dave. Don’t forget the whiskey

I buy hot dogs from 44Farms along with the rest of our beef. I don't bother with beef from grocery stores anymore.

I love cucumbers on hot dogs. Along with onion and pickles or jalapeños, tomato and good mustard. Basically a " Chicago Dog".

Mark, I've never heard of a Chicago Dog. Sounds interesting.

Delicious, 😊 and how I eat almost all of my dogs. An occasional chili cheese dog as well.
