Ruger 10/22 Carbon Fiber Barrel

Post by BigAl52 » Sat May 20, 2023 9:50 pm

Went out to shoot today with the Summit Precision carbon fiber barrel I bought for my ruger 10/22 target model. I bought this barrel because shooting the target model off hand is a little on the heavy side. Plus I like playing with the 10/22. I had some issues at first but figured those out as being human error namely me. Once I got that dialed in the only errors I had was some very poor quality Winchester ammo. I started at 25 yards just to see where I was at. I then moved to 50 yards. Wasnt much wind and I was shooting from a portable bench with one bag. That bag is about 12 inches long maybe more but enough to support the entire gun. Shooting 10 shot groups for me isnt easy. Im no where near as good as Bandit, NCG, or that canuck from the north RR. So here is my target with many groups on it. I will try to point out from memory which ammo is where. But the gun liked Aguila and CCI. I also shot some Federal auto match and that Winchester. It shoots all the ammo pretty well actually real well better that the nut behind the butt.

At 12oclock is Federal Auto Match
At 2 oclock is CCI 36GRhp
At 4oclock is Aguila
At dead center is more Aguila
At 11 oclock is CCI 40gr

I cant remember some of the others but the group in the dead center was my best of all I think. I know there is 3 flyers there courtesy of me. Im just not as steady as I once was. But I do like this barrel.

Very nice. When you get time, post of pic of the Ruger with the new barrel. I like pictures of guns. LOL.

I hear you on the 10 shots. How was your first three rounds with each ammo. I ask because I’m a three-shot wonder myself.

I posted a pic in the other guns section a while back and I thought about doing it again here but just didn’t do it. But here it is. The barrel is really nice. Comes in different lengths and colors. I would buy another one

I can tell you on most of those groups first 3 shots were touching. That center group I know they were as I was really taking my time with that one. There was also red dots in the areas where there isnt any on that target but the dots fell off when I was shooting

Those are some great 10/22 groups! That barrel seems to really like the CCI. Nice shooting. How would you rate that barrel with the factory barrel?

NCG
The factory hammer forged barrel was no slouch. It performed very well. It was a 20 inch bull barrel and this barrel is over 2lbs lighter than the factory barrels. I paid 250.00 for this barrel. Which if you look at aftermarket barrels for 10/22 thats a pretty good price. Im sure you probably already know that. Summit Precision is a family owned business in Spanish Fork,UT. They were very good to deal with.

:D Those laminated stocks sure have grown on me. I didn’t care for them when they first came out but I’ve had a couple over the years. That’s a nice shooting rifle with a variety of ammo despite the “nut on the butt”.
