Tina's Green Thumb

Post by BrokenolMarine » Sun Sep 28, 2025 2:48 pm

Tina won't let me do MUCH outside, due to the doctor's orders. I can ride the Kubota now and then. When it comes to landscaping, I will pick out some of the plants now and then, but she ran a landscaping crew for a major company/nursery in VA for a number of years. She had all her certifications. I choose the plants, then she'll say, yes they will work, or not suitable in that location, then keeps them growing and beautiful.

The plain front of the house, for example, is NO longer plain. I told her which plants I wanted, and they are looking good.

The Crepe Myrtle was at the corner when we moved in, but had NOT been pruned or shaped since the previous owners planted it. Tina cut it down to the ground and has kept it pruned and was shaping it for the last few years. It's looking great. Took out all the planting in the front and let the ground recover, now look at it... ;)

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can't do anymore with regret, I just look forward to the things I still can.

She has planted some ground cover that will spread and cover the mulch, eventually. It just hasn't happened yet. We are slowly getting the yard areas landscaped. She has started culling the older pecan trees in the orchard. A cutter will come in and take one down, cut and split it for firewood and clean up his mess, then cut another marked for removal. This will allow the younger trees the room to flourish. (So I'm told.)

Basically it's a deer feed lot. We don't harvest the pecans. But no reason not to keep the orchard healthy.
