Rossi Trapper at 159 yds.

Post by Vaquero » Sun Aug 17, 2025 11:56 am

These three loads have showed promise at 55yds and the 300 shot well at 126, so I wanted to see about a little farther. ;) First up was the Hdy's 265gr fp. Wow! These are all 4 shot groups.

I moved the sticker over and down just a bit, the adjusted the scope a couple clicks and shot the Big ole 300 xtp's.
Not bad. Then lowered another sticker because the 300s tore the second plumb off.  The red circle is about where it was.
And I figured the cast would be low at that distance with it's light load, it groups quite well at 55yds when "I" do my part.

And I did manage to get two of the cast to touch. 8-)

Nice work Randy. But I dont think you will ever find a bullet better in the 444 than the Hornady 265. When I had mine it was king and it looks like it still is.

Yes sir, and I recently procured a healthy stash of those.
I'd say a lifetime supply + some. ;)
The old Speer Deep Curl 270gr was another fine bullet for the t-4, also discontinued...
I have a few left, but with so many of the 265's now those will be idle.
This thing is so accurate and fun, that I've been thinking hard about dumping the pair of Marlin t-4's. :o
I should be able to get easily more for either than I have in this whole setup. ;) 8-)
And make room in the overly stuffed safe.

When I gave up reloading years back, I knew there would be some cartridges I would really miss, given how hard it was to find factory ammo, not to mention affording factory ammo. The 444 was one of them. Great cartridge.
