1860 Henry makes a return...

Post by RanchRoper » Sun Jan 19, 2025 2:36 pm

Many old time mountaineers moved on to scouting after the end of the fur trade. So it's likely some moved on to newer tech such as cartridge guns. Today we fast forward from the 1820's to 1860. :)

5F at the range today with light snow. Shooting my Uberti Henry in 45 Colt. This was 6.6 grains of Universal, 200 grain LRNFP and Winchester primers. I loaded these up a few years ago.

This is 50 yds off hand, including a darn flyer...

I have not shot this rifle for 3 or 4 years I think, forgot what fun it was. The rest of the outing was ringing steel from 50 to 130 yds, a very fine, accurate firearm. 130 yds is with the ladder sight up but slider at the bottom. I shoot everything off hand. My black powder shooting has really helped my breathing and steady aim.

That's simply amazing, iron sights and all. Glad to see you move up to the 1860, even if only for a little while. Was beginning to think we list you to a time warp.

That's the way they were meant to be shot. Excellent shooting!

Not much of a flier especially shooting in the conditions and method you were. I’d call that more of a leaker than a flier.

Some mighty fine shooting there RR, as usual.
Glad you got the ole gal out to dance again.
I've always admired those rifles.
