Micro climate

Every year about now I marvel at the two different climates on my little parcel (10 acres). I live on the top of a ridge and there is a bit of a drop down from where the house sits and the lower part. Here on top it’s brown and crusty particularly where I mow (duh
) and at the bottom of my place, maybe a quarter mile away it’s green and so lush that ferns grow like crazy. Yesterday I was able to mow the trail and even tho I mowed probably six weeks ago see how tall the ferns in the trail are. Probably 3’ anyway. Also the mosquitos are much worse in the ferns than up at the house which is part of the reason I keep the brush mowed near the house. (Mostly for wildfire suppression but the lower quantity of bugs is a bonus). Here’s a pic of the house area and the trail from this morning, some from yesterday’s mowing.
