Every year about now I marvel at the two different climates on my little parcel (10 acres). I live on the top of a ridge and there is a bit of a drop down from where the house sits and the lower part. Here on top it’s brown and crusty particularly where I mow (duh ) and at the bottom of my place, maybe a quarter mile away it’s green and so lush that ferns grow like crazy. Yesterday I was able to mow the trail and even tho I mowed probably six weeks ago see how tall the ferns in the trail are. Probably 3’ anyway. Also the mosquitos are much worse in the ferns than up at the house which is part of the reason I keep the brush mowed near the house. (Mostly for wildfire suppression but the lower quantity of bugs is a bonus). Here’s a pic of the house area and the trail from this morning, some from yesterday’s mowing.

Like here the lower part is probably fed by spring seeps. There is a crisp line on a slope here, where above the line is brown grass and below it's rich green.

Yeah I figure there must be some sub irrigation in the area. These ferns extend to the parcels on either side of me but as the elevation increases 90 degrees from the bottom of my place they peter out. Makes sense.

Micro climate at my house is 71 inside and whatever it is outside…

Thanks, it’s so handy for doing the trails here at home and up at the north place too. There are trails up there similar to what you see in the pics but are too steep for my tractor so this set up works great. The dogs love the trail too and as soon as I’m done typing this we’re heading out for a hike.
