Before the damp cloth, take a couple light passes over it to debur with 220 sanding sponge or block.

Too late now for this ply. I wiped it down and applied the second coat. Next time I’ll try the sandpaper. I must say you can barely see it now. It’s such a small area I can take my time and do a good job.
