Another Pair

After updating the sight on the Diamondback with my Testors and Revlon Treatment, I headed down to the range to see if I could do it justice. I added my winter EDC buddy the old SIG P220 .45. THAT one won't get the slow far target testing, I'll shoot tactical pairs and push a bit, as promised in the last post. Hold on, here we go.

First up, the Diamondback.

As you can see by the top group, fired slow fire, single action at ten yards, it's amazing what happens when you can SEE the front sight. :o I always told my students, both the recruits in the academy and the civilians in the private CCW classes, the same thing. If you aren't FOCUSED on the front sight, you aren't aiming. 8-)

The lower group opened up a tad, even though I moved up to seven yards. It was fired double action. I haven't shot this gun enough to smooth out the trigger nor to get used to the trigger, but ... it's a shooter. If I WAS going to shoot it a lot, it would be a tack driver. It was new in the box when I got it earlier this year. A 1980 6" Diamondback, NIB. What a find.

On to the Old Girl. The P220 is my Winter gun, and I have a long history with her. I set up the two targets about five feet between the edges and I simulated the draw from the holster and shot two on each, decocking after the four shots.
My first two on the first target I dropped the second shot out the bottom of the cardboard. A clean miss. Like a said... I was pushing. The tactical pairs were close enough they echo'd together. The second set on target two came very close behind. After about five strings, I slowed down just a bit... but was still shooting pairs. The last three mags, I shot at the Iron Lady from twenty five yards, just for fun.

** Note the wide shot at 3 o'clock. Try to push too hard you miss a bit. I also dropped the second shot of the day out the bottom of this target. Tried to go too fast and didn't find the front sight. Don't focus on the front sight, you aren't aiming.

All the shots stayed ON target, as I swung to the second target, but I was more focused at this point, having drawn and fired on the first target, just had to pivot and fire.

Double Action, at the head, I missed. Then five single action shots on the head. Hit, hit, hit, hit, hit. Slow fire.
The next twelve shots... Slow fire, center mass. Hits all. I love this gun. I wish I could conceal it year round.
