A 9mm day here.

I seems like the older I get there are more 9mm days than the more potent stuff. Today I took out the Dan Wesson PM9 and the Springfield RO for pistols and the Henry Homesteader and Ruger PC9 for carbines. The carbines are both set up with Burris FastFire III 3moa red dots.

And here is my best shooting of the day. 5 shots @ 50 yards with each gun with 125 gr. Hornady HAP's over 4.5 gr. of CFE pistol powder. Obviously both guns like this load and both are sighted in exactly the same. I was leaning against a roof support pole to help the plate hold still....what I refer to as a geriatric benchrest... I wish I could say that it's normal for me to put 10 in a little cluster like this but believe me, it's not!

Geriatric benchrest with a geriatric caliber right 5shot. Im right there with ya brother. Just don’t need that big boomer stuff anymore to have a good time. I have a 9mm cylinder for a Blackhawk that is just alright with me. Sure its not as accurate as that regular 357 cylinder but i can ring some steel with it. Those carbines are just fun to shoot and if ya don’t feel like picking up the brass no big deal you can buy more 9 mm about as cheap as you can load it. Nice shooting to if I get close to some of that CFE powder I might try some

That's some fine shooting.

I owned a DW PM9 and what a great 1911 it was, but I foolishly sold it. We still have the Springfield 9mm RO, though, and will never sell it. We had it out at the range a few weeks and it still shoots great. I recently picked up a Kimber KDS9c, which is a double stack 1911 in 9mm and I really enjoy shooting it, too.

Speaking of going easier on recoil, I recently traded off one of 44 mag Ruger Super Blackhawks. Just wasn't shooting it and with 44 mag, you got stay in 44 mag shape to get the accuracy it can produce in a revolver, not to mention it is so expensive to shoot if you don't reload. Yeah, my husband and I are charter members of the geriatric shooting club. 9mm is so easy to shoot and cheap to buy when it comes to ammo.

I’ll be attending the 9mm party too. Love my Springfield Range Officer as NCG said but the the trigger on my CZ 75B is so wonderful that it usually gets the nod. Plus my RO does not like my XTP loads but shoots everything else including plated great.

5shot, that’s a fine looking family of 9’s you have there, especially the carbines.

Al. I can't really give you a straight up answer. Both shoot and function well so that part is a draw.

I like the looks of the Henry much more but don't have to obsess over putting a scratch in the Ruger stock so that part is a draw also.

The Ruger cost me $160 less. I doubt if I will ever need the takedown feature but it does lock up well enough that it seems to maintain Zero after being disassembled. Makes barrel cleaning a little easier.

I have one complaint with both....I like the Streamlight TLR-1 HL weapon light and it's not compatible with either gun. The little short rail on the Ruger doesn't allow the light to be mounted with any of the provided keys and the Henry has no rail at all.

Edit............ The 10 shot group on the 50 yard plate was fired with the carbines.

Was just curious on the comparison 5shot. My PC is a 40 S&W. It functions very good. Eats all of my reloads with no problem. Right now I have some xtreme 165grhp loaded up over 8 gr of HS-6. It has a Burris Fastfire on it which I like ok but really prefer a green dot over the red. 40 ammo is just a few pennies more than the 9 and the brass is also cheap. One thing I did try as I wanted to see what would happen is CCI Blazer aluminum case ammo. Ive read some guys used it in the 9 with no issues. Was not the case for me. It doesn’t work well in the 40.
