I'm sure there's a bunch in Utica, and I know of a great one in Schenectady, I get their rainbow cookies, and their pignoli nut cookies. That's a 45 minute drive for me though. Lower population areas have benefits, but proximity to amenities isn't one of them.daytime dave wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:47 pmOne thing about upstate NY, plenty of Italian bakeries. Some of my favorites are in the Utica area. If I could only make almond paste cookies. Nothing like them close to me, so I do it myself.
There's a guy from NYC that has a little Italian deli in Cobleskill, makes fantastic sandwiches. He also sells a lot of different pastas and cannoli shells. My GF makes her own filling and uses his shells. He and I have talked about the lack of good bread in the area, there just isn't any. (no decent bagels up here either, but I digress) We have a fairly new bakery in Cobleskill that makes deserts and other things like that, but no bread or rolls. The deli guy said he thought it would be a home run from a business perspective, since there's lots of restaurants and they all offer bread or rolls for the table, but nothing made locally. Actually, they may be making bread now, since they offer breakfast and lunch specials, but you truly can not beat those dedicated, neighborhood Italian bakeries.
