He was a good ol' boy! Played QB at Louisiana Tech around the same time as Terry Bradshaw. Read somewhere one time that he missed a lot of practices due to hunting and fishing excursions.

Sad news.

I seem to recall that Terry Bradshaw played behind Phil Robertson but I may be wrong about that but in any event, it is sad news.

The Quarterback Who Walked Away from the NFL to Chase Ducks

In a world where most would sell their soul for a shot at the NFL, Phil Robertson walked away from it like it was a bad blind date. Long before he became America’s most famous bearded duck hunter, he was the man who kept Terry Bradshaw — yes, *that* Terry Bradshaw — on the bench. Picture this: the future Hall of Famer, the four-time Super Bowl champ, standing on the sideline while a wild-eyed Louisiana kid with a cannon for an arm led the offense. But even then, Bradshaw could see it — Robertson didn’t love football. He loved the woods. It sounds like a made-up southern folk tale, but it’s all real: one guy chased glory, the other chased mallards, and both ended up legends in their own worlds. Now that Phil is gone at 79, fans are stunned not just by the loss of a TV icon but by the realization of who he really was before the fame. He wasn’t just the Duck Dynasty guy — he was the quarterback who could’ve had it all but chose a shotgun over a spiral. And somehow, that choice made his story even greater.
