Beauty and the beast. You never know what that little funny looking spot in the foliage may be up close.

An ambush bug. I have posted images of them before. They look like something out of an LSD induced nightmare. Fortunately, they are very small.
Here are a pair that shows them more clearly. The male is actually exhibiting protective behavior here, even though it looks like something else.

Sentient creatures like the Ambush Bug -- and the myriad others (both seen and unseen) that are very literally everywhere around us and, like us, see and hear and feel and taste and smell everything from their position at the absolute center of the universe -- are such a thrill to discover, like you did with these two strange animals. Great photo. Thanks.

Re: Clovis' 2025 images
Went back to Cypress and got some more hummingbird photos before they migrate.
Managed to get a few adult males with their full red gorget. Discovered that since these feathers are iridescent, they are only that bright red when the light hits them from just the right angle.
I was hoping I caught these two fighting. I did, but unfortunately, my camera wasn't able to focus track them fast enough.

Thanks. I have always enjoyed this perspective. Used to carry a magnifying glass as a kid and no....it wasn't for burning ants.

Excellent photos capturing the crisp, clear, sharp, stop action in-focus and gorgeous color of these amazing birds. Thanks.
