Vista Outdoors suspends production of Alliant powders. All current orders are being cancelled. World shortage of nitrocellulose is being blamed. This according to an announcement by Powder Valley.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

So shortage of powder for reloading and factory ammo I would assume. Here we go again.

I recall a member here BOM maybe that mentioned this possibility a year or longer ago. So sad that it came true. I’m heading to the local store that sells powder today and if they have any of the Alliant powders I use I pick up some. Unique, 2400, Power Pistol come to mind.

Haven't seen my favorite Alliant powders locally in a good while and there might be a pound or two of BE-86 at my LGS and will pick it up to add to the stash. In great shape on powders and primers right now but still will manage the reloads using loads that don't use as much powder.

One person's explanation

https://forum.cartridgecollectors.org/t ... tage/58221
....a huge percentage of the nitrocellulose used to make gunpowder historically came from China and Russia, however according to my conversations with industry partners, the Chinese manufacturers who historically were the biggest suppliers at over 30% of the market share are no longer willing to ship raw nitrocellulose to the USA or NATO member countries in attempt to reduce the USA & NATO’s ability to supply Ukrainian forces with artillery shells, and of course Russia who historically was the 2nd biggest supplier is out of the supply chain as well....

Just got back from my LGS and busy as heck in there! They had 3 lbs. of Alliant BE-86 on the shelf and I bought 1 plus another 1K of Winchester LP primers of the 4K they had. Another big wow was the large amount of 410 ammo with most of it being 8 and 9 shot with some slug rounds. This is more than I have seen in one place in several years so bought a couple boxes of the #8. The BE-86 was 49.95 per 1 lb. and primers still at 89.95 per 1K and the 410 anywhere from 16.99 to 21.99 per 25 rounds.
