We don't worry too much. We have a couple dozen free ranging guineas. They are getting huge now. The eat tics and other bugs, make good guard dogs, but can be annoying at times with the noise. Fiona plays with them. She chases them, then they chase her. Repeat.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I saw 2 Lone Stars the other day here in SW Virginia. It is early, but that can sure happen. One year I saw some in February.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 4:56 pmFound a tiny seed tick crawling up my leg so be on the lookout! Seems to be a month early!!!

I had to take one off the step-sons back last week. He couldn't reach it and I was the only other one with the stomach to take care of it.
It's been unseasonably warm here, up until the last couple of days. 6 inches of snow last night. It will be gone by the weekend.
Keep a watch out for those little buggers.

Some of the locals here have reported ticks also. It’s 9F and snowing now so don’t have to worry about them for another week or two.

Re: Yep it is tick time again!
I always get one in the early Spring and then when I go to my range I wear my work boots and pants sprayed with Sawyers along with pants legs tucked tight into socks. May have picked it up from my range trip the other day when I had my other trail boots on. Didn't go down any trail or get into brush as I was working on my shed and just walking on the short grass if not on gravel. Sneaky little critters!
Have a opossum or two running around and maybe get more of those guys down there!

Jim Stafford should have included ticks in his spiders and snakes song. I hate them equally along with spiders and snakes. Reminds me I had better get Frontline on the dogs as we’ve been hiking in the brush and with the 70’s we had earlier this week the little buggers could be emerging here too.
